The 2023 Tour de France will start on 01 July and end on 23 July with a total of 21 stages and 2,115 miles (3,404 kms) being covered during the race.
As usual, a total of 22 teams will take part in the Tour de France with 18 of the UCI WorldTeams getting automatic qualification and the remaining 4 teams are the highest ranked UCI ProTeams in 2022.
For those unfamiliar with the epic cycling event which is the Tour de France, the stage races will take place over different terrains which includes flat stage, medium-mountain stage and mountain stage. There will be 2 rest days during the 2023 Tour de France which are 10 July and 17 July.
The race will start in the Basque Country in Spain which makes it the second time that the Tour de France has kicked-off in Basque Country.
The last time this happened was during the 1992 Tour de France. The tour will end on 23 July with the final stage taking place at Champs-Élysées.
The 2023 Tour de France is the 110th edition of the Tour de France. The race will see Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan Team) take part and look to create history in what could be the veteran’s last Tour de France. Cavendish needs to win just one stage victory in order to surpass the legendary Eddy Merckx’s Tour de France’s all-time record of 34 wins.

What Happened Last Year
The three favorites going into the 2022 Tour de France were Tadej Pogačar of UAE Team Emirates, Primož Roglič and Jonas Vingegaard of Team Jumbo–Visma. It turned out to be a close battle between Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard which provided a lot of excitement for the fans.
In the end, it was Jonas Vingegaard who ended up winning the 2022 Tour de France with a time of 79h 33′ 20″ while Tadej Pogačar took second place coming in + 2′ 43″ behind Vingegaard.

Jonas Vingegaard
It is hard to look past defending champ Jonas Vingegaard who will enter the 2023 Tour de France as the betting favorite. Vingegaard will be part of UCI WorldTeam Team Jumbo–Visma and will look to take a leadership role in the absence of Primoz Roglic.
Vingegaard stamped his name in the record books when he took second place at the 2021 Tour de France.
He proved to his fans and the rest of the world that he can put together consistent performances after he did one better during the 2023 Tour de France and won the tour.
The Danish rider has shown in the past that he does well at the Tour of the Basque Country and the Critérium du Dauphiné. He will need to win both these stages to make another push to win or finish in the top three at the 2023 Tour de France.

Tadej Pogačar
While Jonas Vingegaard is the betting favorite, Tadej Pogačar is not too far behind. The Slovenian cyclist won back to back editions at the Tour de France during 2020 and 2021. He came close to winning his third Tour de France in a row in 2022 but had to settle for second place.
Pogačar will be looking to avenge his loss to Vingegaard this year and win his third Tour de France. The 24 year old who rides for UCI WorldTeam UAE Team Emirates has been a standout star at the Tour de France for the last few years, winning 3rd place at the 2019 Tour de France.
Tadej Pogačar tends to do well during the Tirreno–Adriatico and Paris–Nice stages. Pogačar will look to win early on and put the pressure back on defending champ Vingegaard.

Jai Hindley
The odds makers have Pogačar and Vingegaard as huge betting favorites and everyone else is far behind. One rider that can pull off a surprise at the 2023 Tour de France is Australian Jai Hindley who rides for UCI WorldTeam Bora–Hansgrohe.
The 27 year old from Western Australia joined Bora–Hansgrohe in 2022 and is looking to make a name for himself on the Tour de France.
Hindley caught the eye of Australian cycling fans after he won the Giro d’Italia Grand Tour in 2022 becoming the first Aussie to win the Giro and only the second Aussie to win a Grand Tour.

Dark Horse – Tao Geoghegan Hart
If you are looking to bet on a dark horse for the 2023 Tour de France, then you should considering putting your money on Brit Tao Geoghegan Hart. The 28 year old currently rides for UCI WorldTeam Ineos Grenadiers and finished in 3rd place at the 2023 Tirreno–Adriatico.
Hart hasn’t had any outstanding results at the Tour de France in the past with his best finish being in 2021 when he finished in 60th place.
Hart is also coming back from a surgery that was required after he crashed at the Giro d’Italia and is looking to make a strong comeback at the 2023 Tour de France.
