The 2021 edition of the race will be the 108th event, and it will also mark a return to the traditional dates, beginning on June 26 and ending on July 18.
The traditional Tour de France route will be in operation, meaning the riders will descend on Paris on the final day of the race.
Although the ending of the race will be as normal, we have seen changes to the start. The Grand Depart often travels to other parts of Europe and was scheduled to do so this year.
The plan was for Denmark to host this, although the date and clashes with Euro 2020 have forced race organisers to look elsewhere.
The Brittany region will now be home to the start of the race, with Brest hosting the official start on day one.
Danish cycling fans will seemingly have to wait another year to see their favourite stars as it is expected that the Danish Grand Depart will form part of the 2022 race next year.

What Happened Last Year
The Tour de France of 2020 was delayed from its usual June spot last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Hopes of a race seemed slim, but eventually, we saw the 2020 event take place, beginning on August 29, with the race ending on September 20.
For the first time, we saw a Slovenian rider win the overall classification, with Tadej Pogacar taking the yellow jersey, fellow countryman Primoz Roglic came second while Australian Richie Porte came third.

Cyclists To Watch Out For
* Odds have been provided by 888sport and are accurate as of 23/06/2021
Here is a look at some of the names to watch out for in the 2021 Tour de France.
Tadej Pogačar

He won three jerseys last year, the overall classification, mountain classification and young riders classification. He was the first Slovenian winner of the race, and the second-youngest ever to win it.
Pogačar’s strengths lie in the mountain stages, where he can attack the field using his power and that is exactly how he won last year, and what he will be looking to do again this time around.
He is favourite with the bookmakers and based on his performance last year, that is fully deserved.
Odds to win: 2.25
Primož Roglič

The tougher the task and bigger the climbs, the better that Roglič will perform, he is a man who loves the test of the climbs. Look for him to come into his own when we reach the mountain stages of this years race, and try to push hard to win big there and give himself the chance of holding on and going one better than he did last year.
The bookmakers make Roglič the main challenger to Pogačar, he is the second favourite and will no doubt push the young favourite all the way.
Odds to win: 2.70
Geraint Thomas

Thomas does have questions to answer, which is why the bookmakers have not put him alongside the two Slovenians at the top of the betting.
He didn’t race at the 2020 Tour de France and fractured his hip in a crash at the Giro d’Italia, so anyone backing him does need to hope that he remains fit, and the issues from last year have gone.
Thomas will know that he doesn’t have too many chances left at glory, this could be his last realistic chance of winning this race again. Expect him to throw everything at it if that’s the case, and for the team to be fully behind him too.
Odds to win: 6.00
Dark Horse – Adam Yeats

Yeats signed a deal with the team to start riding for them this season and don’t be surprised to see them support him if he starts well here.
Should that happen, he has a powerful bunch of riders behind him, with a lot of experience, and could go close here at huge odds.
The bookmakers currently have Yeats available at 34.00 to win the 2021 Tour de France.
Selected Odds
Here are selected odds for other riders in the 2021 Tour de France.
Richard Carapaz (9.00)
Richie Porte (21.00)
Julian Alaphillipe (26.00)
Chris Froome (34.00)
Our Pick
Primož Roglič and Geraint Thomas are respected greatly given their experience but cycling has been waiting for a new, young superstar and with Tadej Pogačar, he may finally be here.
The young Slovenian was excellent last year, and we fancy him to win back to back titles, firmly cementing his authority on the cycling world.
At a big price, don’t be surprised to see Adam Yeats go well here, and improve on the 9th place finish he had in 2020.
