The 2020 Women’s British Open (renamed to AIG Women’s Open) is slated to take place from August 20-23 in Scotland at the Royal Troon Golf Club. It will mark the 44th iteration of Women’s British Open, the 20th time it will be held as a major championship on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour and the first at the renown South Ayrshire’s golf course.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom, the tournament will be played behind closed doors, meaning there will be no live audience at the venue. Further measures will be in place for the weekend spectacle, as all attendees will be required to test negative for the virus and have their temperature monitored daily, meaning the field could potentially change before the weekend.
There will be a total of 144 golfers attending the AIG Women’s Open, most of which earned exemptions based on their past performances on the LPGA Tour, the previous major championship, ranking on the Women’s World Golf Rankings and the Ladies European Tour. Others earned the entry by successfully competing in qualifying tournaments.

The Odds
Besides No.1 LPGA golfer Ko Jin-young and No.3 Park Sung-hyun, who are both still in Korea, one of the most notable golfers who will not attend the upcoming major is the Korean LPGA star Kim Sei-young. As revealed, she decided to skip out on both the Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open and the AIG Women’s Open, yet unveiled she will return for the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship on August 27.
The Former No.1 Park In-bee is one of the few Koreans who has been confirmed for the AIG Women’s Open, where she will be chasing her first LPGA Tour win since February 2020 when she won ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open as well as current champion Hinako Shibuno.
Taking all this into consideration we have picked out the three best betting favourites as well as our “dark horse” according to Bet365 heading into this tournament.
The Favourites
Danielle Kang

The 2017 KPMG Women’s PGA champion has been looking extremely solid as of late seeing how she did not place outside top-five since January 2020 when he finished T12 at the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions. Besides her form and undeniable talent, Kang’s chances to claim the spoils have risen exponentially due to several elite Korean players choosing not to travel to the UK due to COVID-19 concerns.
Odds to win: 8.00
Stacy Lewis

The Ladies Scottish Open victory marked Lewis’ first LPGA win since Cambia Portland Classic in September 2017 and the first time an American golfer won the Ladies Scottish Open since Meredith Marshall, who hoisted the trophy at Dalmahoy in 1986.
Odds to win: 36.00
Haley Moore

The young golfer turned pro in June 2019 and has since won the Cactus Tour and 2019 California State Women’s Open. It was no until November, however, when Moore earned her LPGA Tour card for the 2020 season at Q-Series in Pinehurst, North Carolina where she finished in 11th place.
Odds to win: 201.00
Dark horse
Olivia Mehaffey

Even though Mehaffey has not been involved in any competitive golf ever since she won the DrDonnis Thompson Invitational in Hawaii last March, she had all the time in the world to prepare for the challenges ahead and it seemingly paid off.
Since restarting the competition, Mehaffey has been looking very sharp and she did not fail to impress with her scoring, which includeds eight-under par 66 in the second round of the Woodbrook Scratch Cup as well as seven-under par 66 at Tandragee.
The AIG Women’s Open will mark Mehaffey’s fourth Major Championship, having before participated at the 2019 US Open and the last two AIG Women Open’s.
Odds to win: 351.00
Our Pick
Since Ko Jin-young and Park Sung-hyun are not attending the AIG Women Open, Danielle Kang is without a doubt the main favourite to claim another trophy and the relatively generous odds make it easy to pick out our main favourite. When it comes to underdog picks, however, Olivia Mehaffey is not to be ignored.
As one of the least experienced players on the field, her odds are severely inflated, which provides us with a great opportunity on a top-20 market, meanwhile, Stacy Lewis should be considered on a top-10 after her strong performance last weekend. Haley Moore could impress and chase a strong finish, however, the field seems a bit too stacked for us to consider placing a wager on her at the provided odds.
