Main Event Breakdown

* Odds have been provided by GtBets and are accurate of December 8, 2020

Deiveson Figueiredo (20-1-0)

Odds to win: 1.32

Deiveson Figueiredo enters the octagon for the second time in three weeks after his appearance at UFC 255, where he successfully defended his flyweight title with a first-round submission victory over Alex Perez. It marked Figueiredo’s ninth victory at the UFC level (9-1), with seven of his nine wins coming via finishes, including a fourth-round submission win over Joseph Benavidez in July.

Figueiredo is widely known for not only his exceptional submission skills but also for his fearsome knockout power, which has earned him nine career KO’s. To put his performances into a perspective, out of 20 wins, only three came by decision whereas the remaining 17 came via either submission (8) or knockouts (9).

Brandon Moreno (18-5-1)

Odds to win: 3.40

Brandon Moreno should have fought Figueiredo at the UFC 255, but was somewhat unlucky not to be named as his opponent. Nevertheless, he took care of business on the preliminary card by securing a first-round KO win over the No. 6 flyweight Brandon Royval.

Known as the “Assassin Baby“, the 27-year-old Mexican fighter enters the title fight with a very impressive 4-0-1 record in his last five outings and an 18-5-1 career record. Unlike Figueiredo who is known for his knockout power and submissions, Moreno has established himself as a well-rounded fighter that excels in boxing and boasts with impressive grappling.

Prediction: Deiveson Figueiredo by KO/TKO or DQ

Even though Moreno is a very dangerous fighter, it’s hard to ignore that three of Figureno’s last four wins came via submission. What’s more, Figueiredo is extremely precise with his power shots (52% strike accuracy), so it’s fair to say that Figueiredo is just as dangerous to win via submission as he is to defend his title with the help of his ability to KO his opponents.

On that note, Moreno is a fairly solid fighter on the mat, which is why betting on a KO/TKO win for the defending champion is a far safer option. Regardless, this match is Figueiredo to lose.

Preview Of Other Main Event

Renato Moicano (14-3-1): 2.30
Rafael Fiziev (8-1-0): 1.63

The fight between Moicano and Fiziev was originally scheduled for November but was postponed after Moicano tested positive for COVID-19. Nevertheless, the fight is now on for Saturday, when Moicano will look to prove the bookmakers wrong and defeat Fiziev, who enters the fight as 1.63 favourites.

Moicano is coming into this fight off his first lightweight fight in March when he claimed a first-round submission win over Damir Hadžović. Before that fight, Moicano had lost to Jose Aldo and Chan Sung Jung in 2019, but still holds a very solid 6-3 record since his UFC debut in 2014.

Rafael Fiziev, meanwhile, enters the Saturday fight off a unanimous decision win over Marc Diakiese in July, where he also earned the Fight of the Night honour. With this win, Fiziev is now 2-1 since joining UFC in April 2019.

Even though there are arguments to be made in favour of Fiziev, the odds offered on Moicano seem a bit high. He might be 3-3 in his last fights, but all of his losses in that run came against some of the best featherweight fighters in the world including Aldo, Jung and Brian Ortega in August 2019.

Fiziev might still be a slightly more efficient striker but arguably lacks behind Moicano in grappling and cardio. Seeing Fiziev win by KO is a real possibility given his record of knockout wins, however, if Moicano can drag out the fight he should have enough of an advantage to secure an upset win.

Prediction: Renato Moicano to win
