The boxing community are expecting some big fights in 2021. At the top of the list is going to be a heavyweight clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Second on the list is for a trilogy fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. We are not sure if those fights will take place in 2021.
However, one trilogy fight that is expected to take place in 2021 is going to be a fight between Iron Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield. The fight is expected to generate over £150 million in combined revenue.
The biggest challenge to putting together top boxing matches has always been the matchmaking.
Promoters are for some reason unable to get the top boxers to fight each other in their prime and give the fans what they want to see.
Holyfield and Tyson have taken things forward by opening talks and confirming the same to the public. The two fights between Tyson and Holyfield in 1996 and 1997 will go down as two of the most famous fights in heavyweight history.
Evander Holyfield is the only boxer to have defeated Mike Tyson twice. The first time was by KO and the second time was the infamous ear biting incident that got Tyson disqualified. The two fighters have since sorted out their differences and have been friendly at times with each other.
However, the two will put their feelings of mutual respect aside and be ready to step into the ring once again. Holyfield has nothing to prove but is eager to fight Tyson again and have another big payday. Holyfield confirmed that the two teams are in talks and one can expect a decision shortly.
Evander Holyfield Starts Training
Holyfield is now 58 years old but has gone back to the gym and started to train. He was inspired by the return of Mike Tyson in 2020 when he fought Roy Jones Jr. in what turned out to be a majority draw. However, everyone who saw that fight believes Tyson won.
Tyson received £7.5 million for fighting Roy Jones Jr. and donated all of it to charity. Holyfield believes that his fight with Tyson will generate a lot more revenue and Holyfield is also happy to make a donation to charity.
Holyfield said as of now, he is waiting on a decision from Mike Tyson regarding a fight date for 2021.
