Michael Schumacher Is Out of His Coma, But Won’t Be The Same Again

The top neurosurgeon who is overseeing F1 legend Michael Schumacher’s case recently opened up on how his patient was doing, giving his fans throughout the world a glimpse into what they can expect. The Schumacher family has so far chosen not to share any details with the public so this new information is a rare occasion where F1 fans get to learn more about Schumacher.

Most prominent as a Ferrari driver, Schumacher suffered a terrible accident six years ago, on December 29, 2013, while skiing that left him in a long-term coma; he sustained near-fatal brain injuries as a result of hitting the right side of his head on a rock in a fall that destroyed his helmet, while skiing in the French Alps.

Update on Michael Schumacher’s Condition

It is fast approaching some seven years now since Michael Schumacher had that terrible skiing accident in the French Alps, and I am sure that all fans of that F1 racing legend, have the date of that accident, that being the 29th of December 2013 etched into their minds.

Having made the respectful decision to keep his progress to recovery a personal and private matter, his family have reported to those that constantly ask about his condition that he is comfortable.

He is of course now 51 years old, and let us not forget that he was in a serious way after that accident, in fact it wasn’t until 6 full months after the accident that he woke from his medically induced coma, which will give you some idea of the severity of that accident.

What we do know is that Michael Schumacher can and does now have visitors to his bedside regularly, and his close friends have been known to visit once or even twice a month, and one friend did mention recently that he is a fighter and keeps fighting each day.

He has also been described as being very comfortable and is being extremely well cared for too, and we should rejoice in those words, for no matter how you look at his accident it was one that could have ended much worse, and the road to recovery is without a shadow of a doubt going to be a long one.

Concerns have of course also been raised recently due to Covid-19 and whether he is at risk of catching that virus, but sources have revealed, those who care for him have put into place a full raft of measures to ensure he isn’t put in harm’s way.

With a vaccine, in fact several different vaccines for that virus now either having been given approval for public use or are about to be, Michael would be classed as someone who is likely to be high up on the list of first recipients of that vaccine.

It is also very well known that those who care for Michael have ensured no expense has been spared to ensure he in a very comfortable place surrounded by the very best and moat comfortable fixtures and fittings, and that does of course mean he is not going to want for anything.

One recent development that is positive and will help give you an idea of Michael’s current condition, is that it has recently been revealed that he is now keeping a close eye and monitoring his son’s rise through the ranks of motorsport recently joining Haass ahead of the new formula 1 season next year. His son Michael is a chip off the old block for sure so to speak and is doing his father proud with his racing career currently.

Another thing that has just happened that I am sure Michael will be fully aware of is that his record of 7 World Championship titles was recently matched by Lewis Hamilton, thanks to Hamilton’s recent success in the Turkish Grand Prix.

While Schumacher has woken up from the coma, Nicola Acciari, a Bologna-based neurosurgeon, warned that he is now a very different person due to his injuries and will not even be remotely similar to how millions of fans remember him in his heyday.

For the past six years, Schumacher has been attended to by his spouse Corinna, as well as their children Gina-Marie, 22, and Mick, 20. The family lives in a mansion at Lake Geneva in Switzerland.

Updates on Schumacher’s condition have been sparse in the years after the accident. The latest revelation occurred last year, when Schumacher’s former Ferrari manager, Jean Totdt confirmed that his recovery was still ongoing after visiting the seven-time world champion to watch a TV-broadcast of the Grand Prix at his home. Totd praised Schumacher’s fighting spirit, as well as the quality of care he receives at home, though he admitted that Schumacher remained unable to communicate with others substantively.

Last year, Willi Weber, Schumacher’s friend and old manager, accused Corinna of deceiving the public regarding her spouse’s condition. Weber reported that, despite his entreaties to visit Schumacher, Corinna denied his requests. Weber speculated that Corinna does not allow visitors to continue hiding the truth from the public.

Schumacher’s Condition Remains Closely Guarded to Fans

In September 2019, Schumacher went to Paris for a stem cell transfusion intended to control inflammation. A staffer from the Georges-Pompidou hospital was quoted stating that Schumacher was conscious, which was repeated by a nurse from the cardiology department of the same hospital.

Schumacher has been confined to his home since September 2014, where he receives constant care and monitoring. Few concrete updates on Schumacher’s conditions have emerged; a few close friends have visited him throughout the years, but no one has publicly spoken on the former driver’s health.
