July 5, 2019 by Ryan Knuppel

CONMEBOL Copa AmericaThe finals of the 2019 Copa América tournament are set for Sunday between host nation Brazil and Peru.

Like every other Copa América, this tournament has been physical and hard-fought, so both sides should be commended just for reaching the final.

As expected, a majority of the favourites of the tournament dominated the early portions of the tournament, whilst one particular team just about scraped through.

Before taking a closer look at the odds thanks to Bovada and form of Brazil and Peru, let’s reflect on the tournament as a whole.

Host Brazil showed few signs of feeling any pressure, skating through the Group Stage with two wins and a draw, scoring eight goals and conceding none. The likes of Colombia, Uruguay, and Chile also advanced without any issues with the Colombians being the only team to win all three of their group games.

Meanwhile, Argentina drew heavy criticism for their lacklustre play, losing their opener to Colombia and settling for a draw with Paraguay. However, Lionel Messi and company made it past the Group Stage before taking care of business against Venezuela in the quarter-finals. Alas, they fell to rival Brazil in the semi-finals, faltering once again at a major tournament.

On the other side of the bracket, both Chile and Peru survived penalty shootouts in the quarter-finals against Colombia and Uruguay, respectively. In the semi-finals, Chile, the two-time defending champion, couldn’t handle the pressure of being favoured, losing 3-0 to Peru in embarrassing fashion, giving us a Brazil vs Peru final.

Brazil

Key Players: Roberto Firmino, Gabriel Jesus, Casemiro, Phillippe Coutinho, Fernandinho

Brazil famously folded under the pressure of being the host during the 2014 World Cup, but they’ve handled things a little better during this tournament. To be fair, they had a disappointing draw with Venezuela during the Group Stage. They also had to survive a penalty shootout with Paraguay in the quarter-finals.

But the Brazilians were undoubtedly convincing in the semi-finals against Argentina. In that game, they showed off the skill and flair they’ve come to be known for in past years. They now have a chance to capture their first Copa America title since 2007 and do so in front of their home fans.

Odds To Win: -333

Peru

Key Players: Edison Flores, Paolo Guerrero, Jefferson Farfan, Yoshimar Yotun, Renato Tapia

Peru is no doubt a surprise participant in the finals. This will be their first time in a Copa America final since they won the tournament in 1975. However, they gave a strong albeit unsuccessful showing at least year’s World Cup and have reached the semi-finals of two of the last three Copa America tournaments, so they’ve been building toward a performance like this.

The question is which Peru side shows up in the final: the one who lost to Brazil 5-0 during the Group Stage or the savvy and confident side that knocked off Chile 3-0 in the semifinals?

Odds To Win: +921

Our Predication

The Brazilians are heavy favourites in the final. When these two met during the group stage, the Brazilians owned 69% of the possession and fired 19 shots compared to just eight shots for Peru in the 5-0 win. The Peruvians will surely put up more of a fight this time around, but a win would be almost impossible to envision.

Bet on Brazil to win the Copa America final with at least a 2-goal cushion.
