IOTA, the creators of Tangle technology, has been chosen as a partner by Taipei (Taiwan) for the latters plan to become a smart city using the power of block chain technology. IOTA’s Tangle technology for the Internet of Things (IoT) will be used to provide an array of new technology features for the residents of the city.
To begin with IOTA will create a citizen ID cards built on the Tangle technology. The ‘TangleID’ cards will be designed in such a way that it will eliminate risks of identity theft and voter fraud, while providing an easy means for tracking health history and other data for services related to government.
IOTA is already working on another project which aims to create a palm-sized card to detect humidity, pollution, temperature, and light using sensors. It is primarily intended to provide real-time information about pollution levels to the citizens of Taipei. IOTA Foundation’s co-founder David Sønstebø believes the adoption as a big step forward. Sønstebø said
‘the technology is ready for real-world use cases and is more than just a theory’.
Through an official press release, Wei-bin Lee, Commissioner of the Department of Information Technology in Taipei City Government, stated that the ‘unique technology’ offered by IOTA will guide the ‘new era of smart cities for the citizens of Taipei’.
