Super Bowl LVII

  • Less than $26 million was wagered this year.
  • Analysts feel that betting will increase in the coming years on the Super Bowl.
  • Nevada operators held $11.3 million from the wagers.

Sportsbooks in Nevada were hopping with activity this past weekend as sports fans got their last minute wagers in for Super Bowl LVII. The state took in $153.2 million in bets according to the Gaming Control Board, a much lower number than the bets recorded in the previous year’s big event.

After the Kansas City Chiefs defeated Philadelphia Eagles which we predicted, the state reported the figures, a drop of over $26 million from 2022 betting.

Details from the 2023 Super Bowl Bets

Sportsbooks in Nevada were able to hold 7.4% of wagers from the game and earned just over $11 million in revenues. This number was a bit disappointing and the lowest total the state has seen since 2019.

It was expected that Nevada was lose a bit of its sports betting action due to the event taking place in Arizona. This year’s Super Bowl took place in the state and it marked the first time the football game was hosted by a state where sports betting is legalized.

While the figure from the game was low for Nevada, it did fall in line with analyst predictions. It was expected that Nevada operators would take in more wagers on the Super Bowl than the other US states where betting is legal. The full results of sports betting on the big game should be in within the coming days so we have a better picture of just how much was wagered overall with predictions before the game of over 50 Million Americans betting.

According to GeoComply, the company processed over 100 million geolocation checks on Saturday and Sunday for mobile users. The company verifies sports betting services for Nevada and other states.

More Action Next Year for Nevada

It is possible that Nevada will be back on top when it comes to sports betting on the Super Bowl next year. The state is set to host the game in February 2024 at Allegiant Stadium. Analysts feel that a new standard will be set in the industry when this game takes place. Estimates have been reported up to $200 million for wagers connected to the Super Bowl LVIII.

Football wagering is down overall which does help to explain the lower betting numbers overall. Within the last four months of 2022, wagers were down by almost 7% when compared to the previous year. However, sportsbooks have been setting records when it comes to wagers and revenues.

The up and down status is dependent on the market as well as other factors such as team matchups and the economy. It will be interesting to see the overall totals once they are available to compare how this year’s Super Bowl performed based on the years past in the US. We could see a new record set based on the totals from specific areas of the nation.
