Pacquiao’s Camp Sends Clear Message To Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoWhat is more important to Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather? Keeping his perfect 50-0 record intact or put it on the line in order to get another 9 figure payday against his rival Manny Pacquiao?

Manny Pacquiao’s camp sent out a strong message to Floyd Mayweather telling him that if he is serious in a re-match then this is the year to get it done.

Boxing fans got their wish back in May 2015 when the two fighters stepped into the ring after years of trying to work out a fight deal.

While MayPac1 turned out to be the biggest pay-per-view event in boxing history and earned both fighters millions of dollars, fans felt let down as it was more of a hugging contest than a real fight. Pacquiao later said that he fought with a major shoulder injury which limited his ability to throw punches. Mayweather won that fight via decision.

The two boxers have teased fans of running it back to give them a proper fight. However, nothing concrete has come of those talks and Mayweather continues to stay retired.

Justine Fortune who is the strength and conditioning trainer for Pacquiao believes that Floyd is very interested in keeping his 50-0 record intact and he will not be very keen to risk it by fighting Pacquiao as he saw how good Pacquiao fought in his last match against Adrien Broner on Jan 19, 2019.

In a statement, Fortune said

Floyd hasn’t fought a real contender in a while. If the rematch doesn’t happen this year, it may not ever happen. If you wait until next year, they’ll be a year older. Floyd will be 43. Fans might lose interest in a rematch if they’re kept waiting too long.

Will Mayweather Fight In 2019?

We know Mayweather likes to keep his name in the spotlight. His last ‘fight’ in the ring was an exhibition match in December 2019 under the RIZIN promotion. Floyd has multiple options on the table when it comes to choosing a partner to dance in the ring.

He can fight Pacquiao who is an accomplished boxer and make the most money with MayPac2. He can also give MMA star Conor McGregor a rematch but given the fact that McGregor lost his last UFC fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov, it will be hard to sell that fight.

There is also the option of fighting Nurmagomedov who has expressed interest in fighting Mayweather. If Mayweather is going to fight in 2019, it is highly likely that he will select an opponent before the first half of 2019!
