Giannis AntetokounmpoSummary

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo happy to help Bucks win First NBA Championship in 50 years
  • Giannis not sure if he will stay with Bucks
  • Looking for new challenges going forward

Giannis Antetokounmpo was instrumental in helping the Milwaukee Bucks win their first NBA Championship last season.

This was the first NBA Championship that the Bucks won in the last 50 years and it was a challenge that excited Giannis as he wanted to help the Bucks establish themselves as a championship team and they did.

Plans To Leave Bucks In The Near Future

Some players like to stick on to a NBA Championship team and look to repeat their success. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are good examples of this as they have been with the Golden State Warriors for many years and helped them win multiple NBA Championships.

Giannis does not think the same way and recently told reporters that what excited him in the past was the challenge of bringing an NBA Championship to the Bucks. The challenge is no longer there and Giannis is looking for something new to excite him and light the fire within him again.

The defending champs have not had a great start to this season and have 6 wins and 8 losses so far. Giannis should be excited about the challenge of helping the Bucks regain their momentum and see if they can win back to back NBA Championships.

However, the 26 year has a mind of his own and from his comments; it looks like he wants to pursue a new challenge with a new team going forward.

Will Stay With Bucks For next Two Years

Giannis signed a 5 year contract with the Bucks in December 2020 for $228.2 million after discussing his possible future when exiting the playoffs that season and fans expected him to stay a long time and build a strong team. The two time MVP clarified that he has no plans to immediately leave the Bucks as he does intend to stay for the next couple of years.

He told reporters that Milwaukee has been very good to him and his family and he wants to give back. However, he cannot promise that he would continue to play for the Bucks after the next two years.

His agent Alex Saratsis shed more light on his client’s statements by saying that Giannis has accomplished everything at the age of 26 and is in search of new challenges to keep the excitement going.
