Africa, Europe and South America
Apart from Portugal, Spain and Morocco being the main co-hosts for the World Cup, FIFA has also confirmed that some of the games during the World Cup will take place in 3 South American countries. Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina will be a part of the 2030 World Cup and these three countries will host one match each to kick-off the World Cup.
This will be the first time in the history of the tournament that the World Cup will be hosted by three separate continents with Europe, Africa and South America getting in on the action. The 2030 FIFA World Cup will consist of 48 nations and all 6 countries hosting games will get automatic qualification.
There will be lots of travel involved due to the World Cup being staged in 3 continents and not everyone is happy including Football Supporters Europe (FSE) who criticized FIFA. FSE said that this move was bad for footballs supporters and disregards environmental concerns!
By ensuring that the 2030 FIFA World Cup is staged across Europe, Africa and South America, it opens the way for FIFA to ensure that the 2034 World Cup is hosted only in Oceania and Asian football federations.
Saudi Arabia And Australia Keen On 2034 World Cup
Qatar staged a very successful World Cup in 2020 and Saudi Arabia is now very keen on securing the rights to host the 2034 World Cup. Australia is also pushing to win the rights to host the 2034 World Cup after hosting a highly successful 2023 Women’s World Cup along with New Zealand.
Australia could find it difficult to compete against Saudi Arabia who have made a huge push in the last few years to become the sports capital of the world. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is also said to have a close relationship with FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
