Summary:
- Japan Rugby Football Union appoint Eddie Jones as Rugby Coach
- Jones will begin his second stint as Japan’s Rugby Coach from Jan 1, 2024
- Ex-Rugby players tear in Jones for being a liar and cheating the Aussie public
Before the 2023 Rugby World Cup could commence in France, there were rumours that Eddie Jones who was the head coach for Australia had interviewed with Japan for a potential head coach role.
Jones Appointed Rugby Coach For Japan
Jones took on the head coach role for Australia in Jan 2023 after being sacked as head coach of England. Jones made some controversial calls in selecting Australia’s World Cup squad and it showed as the Wallabies ended up having a poor World Cup and were knocked out for the first time in World Cup rugby history before the knockout stage.
Jones was put under pressure during the 2023 World Cup when he was asked if he was interviewing for a head coach role with Japan while being the head coach for Australia. He initially danced around the questions and did not confirm or deny. But after a lot of pressure he admitted that he was not in talks with Japan Rugby Football Union.
Jones resigned as head coach of Australia at the end of October. Earlier this week, Japan Rugby Football Union confirmed that Eddie Jones will begin his second stint as rugby coach from Jan 1, 2024.
Ex-Players Sledge Jones For Lack Of Integrity
Jones clearly played the Australian public, the team that he coached and Rugby Australia by denying he was pursuing a role with Japan while being Aussie coach. Less than 2 months after resigning, those rumours were found to be true and Jones has copped a lot of flak on social media from rugby players around the world.

Obviously he lied to the players, he lied to the public, he lied to the Australian rugby union. What a disgrace. I guess that’s my first point. I actually feel sorry for Japan that they believe this guy is gonna take them somewhere where his track record shows that he hasn’t been able to do. I could never believe in someone that I knew was pretty much full of crap. Japanese culture is all built on respect, loyalty, things that he’s shown that he’s not about.
