- Makhachev allegedly used an IV to rehydrate after his weight cut
UFC lightweight champ Islam Makhachev took on UFC featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski in Perth, Australia on Feb 12 at UFC 284.
Volk who was ranked the number 1 P4P fighter in the world went up a weight class to face Makhachev, the number 2 ranked P4P fighter in the world.
Makhachev who is used to finishing his opponents could not stop Volk as the fight went the distance. Makhachev ended up winning by unanimous decision which we hinted could happen but many fans and fighters felt Volk won the fight, including UFC veteran commentator Joe Rogan.
Hooker and Volk Claim Makhachev Cheated
Volk’s training partner Dan Hooker who fought Makhachev in the past has made a startling accusation on Twitter. Hooker claims that Makhachev broke United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) protocol by using an IV to rehydrate himself after his weight cut.
Makhachev had a tough weight cut and had to strip down to make championship weight. Fans saw how emotional Makhachev was on the scale with tears in his eyes.
Hooker tweeted
Dumb cunt thinks he can fly to Australia, hire a nurse to give him an IV and we won’t find out. Cheating dog!

He went on to put a name to the cheating dog allegation and said

Loads of UFC fighters used to rehydrate using an IV in the past but once USADA stepped in, they banned using an IV from Oct 2015. If a UFC fighter is now caught using an IV, they run the risk of being banned for 2 years.
Volk Backs IV Cheating Allegations
Volk spoke to veteran MMA journalist Ariel Helwani and made a couple of references to Makhachev using an IV to cheat USADA protocol. Volk said he felt he won the fight and wants a rematch.
Volk told Helwani
I don’t need him to be a featherweight, he can be a welterweight, wherever we fight, he can get as big as he wants with IVs and whatever he does, it doesn’t matter. Watch what happens next time.
Makhachev’s co-manager Rizvan Magomedov denied all of the allegations and claimed that Hooker is just salty since he lost to Makhachev by submission in R1 at UFC 267.
