Top International Cricketers Get Massive Payday At 2019 IPL Auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the richest cricketing T20 league in the world and players from around the world are very keen in being picked up by IPL franchises as it usually results in them making a decent amount of money.

The top cricketers in the world tend to make more than decent money at the IPL as franchises are willing to pay massive amounts of money that is way above their base price (minimum contract price) at the IPL auction.

A number of cricketers received a massive payday at the 2019 IPL auction which was held in Kolkata on December 19. We take a look at some of the players who struck gold.

Foreign Players Who Broke The Bank

Australia vice-captain created history by becoming the highest paid foreign player in the history of the IPL after the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) paid out 15.5 crores to sign him. Pat Cummins had a base price of 2 crores. A number of Australian players also had a big payday as Glenn Maxwell who had a base price of 2 crores was bought by Kings XI Punjab for 10.75 crores and Nathan Coulter-Nile who had a base price of 1 crore was bought by the Mumbai Indians for 8 crores.

English cricketers also did well at the IPL auction especially after picking up the ICC Cricket World Cup, as their captain Eoin Morgan who had a base price of 1.5 crores was bought by KKR for 5.25 crores, Sam Curran who had a base price of 1 core was bought by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for 5.5 crores. West Indian players Shimron Hetmyer had a base price of 50 lakhs was bought for 7.75 crores by the Delhi Capitals and his mate Sheldon Cottrell who had a base price of 50 lakhs was bought for 8.5 crores by Kings XI Punjab.

Indian Players Who Had A Good Day

Piyush Chawla was the highest paid Indian player who had a base price of 1 crore was signed by CSK for 6.75 crores. A number of young players like Priyam Garg, V. R. V. Singh and Yashasvi Jaiswal who had the minimum base of 20 lakhs were bought for big sums. Sunrisers Hyderabad paid out 1.9 crores each for Garg and Singh while the Rajasthan Royals paid out 2.4 crores for Jaiswal.

There were a number of top players who were not bought at the auction and these include Colin Munro, Adam Zampa, Tim Southee, Carlos Brathwaite and Martin Guptill.
