The US and Great Britain had a photo finish for the second positon, following Germany in the ranking.

US athletes brought home 10 new medals on Sunday, following Saturday’s impressive toll of 18.

One of Sunday’s highlights was the 100m final dramatically won by sprint star Noah Lyles by five-thousandths of a second from Jamaican Kishane Thompson.

It took a photo finish to establish the winner, but Lyles’ superb delivery was officially acknowledged and the country could celebrate its first gold in the last two decades.

Here are the main highlights from August 4.

Gold Medals

Day 9 started well for Team USA when Scottie Scheffler delivered excitement after winning the men’s golf final.

The jubilation continued with another golden finish delivered by Kristen Faulker in the women’s road race, Bobby Finke’s victory in men’s 1500m freestyle, and Team USA’s women’s 4x100m medley relay win, followed by Lyles’ dramatic win.

Showman Lyles’ extraordinary trump over his rivals in the second half of the race by the finest of margins also brought him a personal best of 9.79 seconds at Stade de France.

The 27-year-old, who bagged three golds at the World Championships in 2023, repeatedly rang the victory bell located at the side of the track after placing himself at the pinnacle of the sport.

You couldn’t have asked for a bigger moment, I hope you guys like Noah because I’ve got a lot more coming!

Silver Medals

Brady Ellison’s quest for his fifth Olympic archery medal ended in gold on Sunday following the incredible men’s individual event where he and rival Kim Woojin from South Korea remained tied 5-5 after five sets in the final.

The duo, which Kim described as the equivalent of “Messi and Ronaldo” in soccer, took the match to a shoot-off that was eventually won by the South Korean.

Team USA was in fine form and won silver in the men’s 4x100m medley relay, coming up just short of their performance to China.

The latter received an incredible 45.92-second split from 100-meter freestyle gold medalist Pan Zhanle.

Caeleb Dressel and Hunter Armstrong also delivered incredible splits in the final two legs for the US.

Bronze Medals

Keller’s Austen Smith won the bronze medal in women’s skeet shooting after hitting 45 of 50 targets in the final.

This win marked the 23-year-old’s first Olympic medal for Team USA, following her 10th ranking in Tokyo.

With a score of 14.800, Suni Lee became the first American woman to win two medals in uneven bars at this year’s Olympics.

The 21-year-old who has been battling two rare kidney diseases for the past three years stood tall on the podium on Sunday, proudly wearing the bronze medal around her neck and matching her Tokyo finish.

It’s so much more meaningful” she commented, adding that she had told herself she was “coming back to redeem” herself on bars, and “that’s what I did this time”.

Finally, Fred Kerley brought in Team USA’s third bronze medal on Sunday in the men’s 100m final with a time of 9.81.

Commenting on his second Olympic medal, the sprinter wrote “Good a$$ final” on his social media.

Currently, Team USA has 19 gold, 26 silver, and 26 bronze medals, over China’s 45 and France’s 44 medals.
