The St. Louis Blues are somewhat a team of destiny. Once in the bottom of the standings this season, the Blues fired their head coach and started to play a rookie goalie. After that happened the Blues made a rise up the standings and now sit in a position of envy.
The San Jose Sharks are in a similar spot, although they didn’t have to make a huge rise up the rankings. They were down in the first round 3-1 to the Las Vegas Golden Knights and then ripped off three wins in a row to advance.
Their goalie had been pulled twice and it looked like they were done until back to back overtime wins in game six and seven allowed them to advance. The Sharks took the first game 6-3 and lead the series 1-0 as we get ready for game two in San Jose.
San Jose is favoured to win by 1.5 goals and the over / under sits at 5.5.
The Blues are really going to have to clean up their play if they want to win this game. In the first game of the series the Blues had 12 giveaways and allowed six goals. There wasn’t much the goalie could go since the puck was flying at him all night long.
The Blues did score three goals but usually giving up six goals isn’t going to be a good look for your team. The Blues did not handle the pressure very well and the forwards had no puck control. The combination of pressure by the Sharks and poor puck control by the Blues led to a big demise in game one.
Sharks Look to Add to Series Lead
Logan Couture had a stellar night in game one racking up three points. Couture now has the postseason lead in both goals (11) and points scored (17). This is the second time in team history that a player has reached 10 points in one postseason, and Couture has now done that twice for them.
Timo Meier was also very good for them with his defense attributing to three goals. He used his defense to create the first goal, nailed the back of the net on the fourth goal, and had his shot bounce off a skate for their fifth goal. If the Sharks can keep their defense up, it is going to be a quick series for them.
Blues Aim to Tie the Series
The Blues are hoping to get into the win column tonight. If anything Is true, it’s that the Blues don’t have to win tonight to have a shot at winning the series. Both of these teams have been down and out before but have climbed back into it. The Blues are needing to make some adjustments on offense and they will be fine.
If the Sharks are able to pressure the puck again it could be a long night. Look for the Sharks to have a bit more trouble pressuring the puck, but they’ll still pull out the win. Take the Sharks at home with GTBets.
