Billy Joe Saunders Ready To Silence Canelo In Upcoming Bout

Updated On Mar 1, 2021 by Ryan Knuppel

Canelo Alvarez vs. Billy Joe SaundersCanelo Alvarez went into his fight against Avni Yildirim as a massive betting favorite over the weekend and only took 3 rounds to stop Yildirim as we predicted. Canelo showed the rest of the world why he is in a class of his own as Yildirim took a beating for three rounds and it was a relief to a lot of fans when the fight was over.

The promoters were so confident that Canelo was going to win his fight against Yildirim and retain his WBA and WBC belts that they already had a promo made for Canelo to fight Billy Joe Saunders on May 8.

Canelo has dominated the sport of boxing ever since Floyd Mayweather called it a day. He has a (55-1-2, 37 KO) record and has looked more convincing after each fight. Canelo’s biggest challenge in recent years was against Gennady Golovkin (GGG). Their first fight ended in a split decision and the second fight Canelo edged out GGG to take a decision win.

No one has been able to push or challenge Canelo since then but Billy Joe Saunders believes he has the skills, experience and fight IQ to take Canelo out and seize his WBA and WBC belts. Saunders is currently the WBO champ and believes that a win over Canelo will establish him as one of the greatest boxers of this generation.

Saunders currently has a perfect record with no losses. He has won all of his 30 fights with 14 of them coming by way of KO. Saunders will still be the betting underdog when he steps into the ring against Canelo on May 8.

Canelo Overwhelming Favorite To Win

The bookmakers have Canelo as the overwhelming favorite to win against Billy Joe Saunders. On paper this looks as a tough matchup for Canelo since Saunders has no defeats on his record. If you are a serious boxing fan though, you know that there is hardly anyone who can fight at 168lbs that can pose a serious threat to Canelo.

The only exception is Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather who already has a win over Canelo. If Mayweather was to come out of retirement to fight Canelo, it could end up being the biggest boxing fight in history and both fighters will make a ton of cash. However, Mayweather is not likely to put his unblemished record at risk and will prefer to fight YouTube boxers like Jake and Logan Paul and have a quick payday.
