Tom Brady as a Fox commentatorSummary:

  • Tom Brady could face Fox restrictions if his part-ownership application for the Las Vegas Raiders sees the green light.
  • As an owner, Brady would be subject to the NFL’s anti-gambling and tampering policy.
  • The NFL icon would not be able to watch practice games, enter the facility of another team, attend broadcast production meetings, or express criticism.

In 2024, former professional football quarterback icon Tom Brady made his debut as lead expert commentator for the National Football League (NFL) on Fox in June.

Now, according to ESPN reports, provided the 47-year-old’s application for part-ownership for the Las Vegas Raiders is accepted, he should be expecting several restrictions from his position as Fox analyst as dictated by the NFL.

Challenging Broadcasting Job Ahead

In case the former New England Patriots player becomes part-owner of the team based in the Las Vegas metropolitan area, he can expect a series of restrictions.

For starters, Brady, who actively played in 23 seasons of the NFL will be forced to comply with the league’s anti-gambling and tampering policy.

This means he will not be able to bet on the NFL, including other NFL events such as the Draft, Combine, Pro Bowl, and NFL Honors, or have friends or family members bet for him.

He will also not be allowed to gamble or wager on sports, share “inside information”, enter a sportsbook during the NFL playing season, or play daily fantasy football.

Team and Officials Criticism, Off the Table

Having to obey the NFL’s anti-gambling rules carefully is just part of the requirement. As an owner, Brady would also face other strict and unique restrictions, including setting foot inside another team’s facility or watching practice games

The same list would restrict him from participating in broadcast production meetings, whether online or in-person, and expressing criticism regarding teams and sports officials.

While the NFL legend could theoretically say he disagrees with a call while on air, he could be fined or suspended provided his commentary went too far.

Instead, the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback would only be allowed to engage in “strictly social communication with members of other clubs” according to the “Brady — Broadcast Restrictions” slide presented by the NFL to owners during a league meeting in Minneapolis earlier this week.

Fox members part of Brady’s team would not face the same restrictions.

Currently, the percentage of the Raiders franchise the player could obtain has not been disclosed.

Brady will officially start the first season of his $375 million contract at Fox that will spread across a decade together with Kevin Burkhardt on the network’s No. 1 team.

Brady’s first assignment will be the Dallas Cowboys VS Cleveland Browns match in Week 1 which you can find a US sportsbook to bet on with.
