Team Europe celebrate winning the Ryder Cup 2023Summary:

  • Team Europe once again proved dominant at home even though they were underdogs
  • Team Europe beat Team USA 16.5-11.5 to win the 2023 Ryder Cup
  • Team Europe bonded better than Team USA and made a big difference

Team USA travelled to Rome, Italy to see if they could break the jinx of not being able to win the Ryder Cup away from home for the last 30 years.

Team USA went into the Marco Simone Golf Club with a lot of expectations on their shoulders as the sportsbooks had them as the betting favourites including us, despite the 30 year jinx.

Team Europe Puts 2021 Ryder Cup Humiliation Right

There were some golf analysts who felt that Team Europe could struggle against Team USA because they did not have all of their best players on show. This was because a few key players were ineligible to participate since they were part of the LIV Golf Tour.

However Team Europe which had three of the top four ranked golfers in the world with John Rahm, Rory Mcllroy and Viktor Hovland were confident that they had enough talent and experience to gain redemption after suffering an embarrassing loss at the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, Haven, Wisconsin when they lost 19-9.

That’s exactly what Team Europe did on all three days of the Ryder Cup as they got the better of the USA Golf team and continued to put pressure on the visitors which eventually saw break and once again fail to win away from home. This was the 7th time in 11 years that Team Europe have won the Ryder Cup.

Team Europe’s Bonding Gave Them The Edge

Golf analysts will break down the games and point out to the numerous errors and mistakes that Team USA made which eventually cost them. One of those was the performance of American Scottie Scheffler who is ranked number 1 in the world. He had a poor showing and could only accumulate two 0.5 points for his team.

Team Europe captain Luke Donald credits his team bonding as one of the key factors that gave them the edge. In a statement, Donald said

We’re united by our culture, we’re united by a generation of players who have come before us and this is our time. I gave them a good culture to succeed and laid out a plan on why I thought they were going to win but really it was just staying out of the way. They had to play well and they did the job.
