Sha’carri Richardson, Ready to Have Her Olympics Debut in Paris

In 2021, Sha’Carri Richardson was looking forward to participating in her first-ever Olympics at the Tokyo Olympic Games when she was slapped with a one-month suspension for marijuana use.

The Dallas native, who is now 24, was eager to prove her skill after qualifying for the 100-meter dash.

This year, it’s time for Richardson to get her revenge after she accused the IOC of being racially biased and finally make her much-anticipated debut at the Olympics.

Four Excellent Years for Richardson

The sprinter qualified for the 100-meter sprint event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games that took place in late June.

She also won the women’s 100-meter final at the United States Olympic trials in which she finished 10.71. Her time was 0.09 seconds faster than first runner-up Melissa Jefferson.

Over the past four years, the former LSU sprinter proved she is one of the best sprinters in the world. Besides her excellent qualifying time for the 2021 Olympics, she also grabbed the gold medal in the 100-meter sprint and 4x100m relay and the bronze medal in the 200-meter sprint after running a personal-best 21.92 during the 2023 World Championships held in Budapest.

 

Allyson Felix was the last American woman sprinter to win gold in the 200-meter Olympics after besting Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in 2012.

Richardson to Run the 100-Meter Dash, 4x100m Relay Under Question Mark

The sprinter will be running the 100-meter dash at this year’s summer Olympics in France.

Richardson may also run in the 4x100m relay for Team USA, even though the full roster is yet to be announced.

On Friday, August 2, the Olympics will host the Women’s 100m Preliminary Round at 4:35 a.m. ET followed by the Women’s 100m Round 1 at 4:50 a.m. ET.

The following day, the Women’s 100m Semi-Final will take place at 1:50 p.m. ET followed by the Women’s 100m Final at 3:20 p.m. ET.
