There are many who believe that Roger Federer should have called it a day a few years ago and retired when he was on top of his game. The Swiss great has continued to play professional tennis and has dismissed any talks of retirement.
Federer, Rafael Nadal and now Novak Djokovic have 20 Grand Slams each and Federer would dearly like to add a few more to his impressive resume before retiring. He played the 2021 French Open but dropped out after the third round as he wanted to focus on Wimbledon.
He got to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon but was beaten in straight sets by Hubert Hurkacz and it once again sparked rumours of a potential retirement.
However Federer has now come out and said that he suffered a knee injury during the grass court season and has already started rehabilitation work.

Federer underwent two surgeries on his right knee during 2020 but did not confirm if it was the same knee but his statement on social media leads us to believe that it is indeed the same knee. Federer did not confirm how long the injury will keep him out but did confirm that he will not play at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
The 39 year old Federer has had a very illustrious tennis career but has never won any Olympic Gold and the 2021 Tokyo Olympics was his final chance at winning Olympic Gold. Federer did say that he plans on making a comeback in 2021 but as of now is not sure when he will return.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) continues to receive criticism for proceeding with the games which begin on 23 July and run till 08 August as Japan continues to battle with COVID-19. No international tourists will be allowed to enter Tokyo to witness the games and the athletes will have to perform in front of an empty stadium.
A number of top tennis players have withdrawn from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics which is certainly disappointing for tennis fans. Apart from Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem and Serena Williams have also pulled out.
Novak Djokovic who just won Wimbledon has said that as of now he is 50/50 on whether he will take part in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
