United KingdomGameweek 24 in the Premier League produced another entertaining afternoon of football. Here is what happened in Saturday’s Premier League encounter:
Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea bounced back to winning ways on the south coast in emphatic style in the early kick-off.
The Blues took just three minutes to take the lead. Victor Moses cross was only half cleared to Eden Hazard in the area. The Belgian playmaker took a sublime touch before firing past Mathew Ryan.
The visitors doubled their lead on six minutes. A brilliant team moved involving Hazard and compatriot Michy Batshuayi resulted in the latter back heeling the ball into the path of Willian who fired powerfully past Ryan.
Hazard had a second on 13 minutes from time. The Belgian playmaker embarked on a superb solo run before beating Ryan. The rout was complete with a minute left on the clock. Substitute Charly Musonda produced a fantastic long-range pass over the top of the Brighton defence, which Victor Moses controlled and fired home.
The Blues remain one of the favourites to finish in the Champions League spots this season. Meanwhile, Brighton are just a point above the relegation zone and one of the favourites for relegation.
Arsenal proved that there is life after the soon to be departed Alexis Sanchez with a 22-minute goal burst at the start of the contest.
The Gunners took the lead on six minutes, as Spanish defender Nacho Monreal headed home from a corner kick at the far post. Monreal turned provider four minutes later for Alex Iwobi, who scored from close-range. Monreal was again involved in the third goal on 13 minutes. This time the defender rolled the ball across the face of goal for defensive partner Laurent Koscielny to tap home.
The north London side were four up on 22 minutes. Jack Wilshere found Mesut Ozil, who back-heeled the ball to Alexandre Lacazette and the French striker fired home with a powerful effort. Palace replied on 78 minutes, through a well-taken Luka Milivojevic volley.
The victory means that the Gunners are five points behind fourth-place Liverpool, who occupy the last Champions League spot. The visitors are currently five points above the relegation zone.
The Citizens took the lead on 34 minutes. Sergio Aguero headed home from Sergio Aguero’s cross. City doubled their lead on 63 minutes. Newcastle defender Javier Manquillo brought Raheem Sterling down in the penalty area and Aguero made no mistake with the penalty kick.
The home side got a goal back four minutes later. Ciaran Clark produced a superb through-ball to Jacob Murphy and the youngster kept his cool to finish past Ederson. City sealed the win with seven minutes left on the clock. Leroy sane produced good feet to beat three players before finding Aguero, whose effort beat Karl Darlow in the home goal.
The victory means that Manchester City regained a 12-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. Newcastle are still in the thick of the relegation battle, 15th place and just a point clear of the relegation zone.
