Nasser Al-Khelaifi congratulates Kylian Mbappé for signing new contract extension dealSummary:

  • PSG President has given Kylian Mbappé an ultimatum
  • Mbappé needs to sign a new contract with PSG or leave in 2023
  • PSG do not want Mbappé to serve out his contract and leave as a free agent in 2024

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans were disappointed last month when their star player Kylian Mbappé sent a letter to the club and informed them that he did not want to extend his contract when it expired in 2024.

This was a blow for PSG who ended up parting ways with Lionel Messi earlier this year and were keen on holding on to Kylian Mbappé.

Things have come to ahead recently with PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi issuing an ultimatum to the 24 year old striker.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi Issues Ultimatum To Mbappé

When news media asked President Nasser Al-Khelaifi about the future of Kylian Mbappé with PSG, Al-Khelaifi did not mince words and said that Mbappé was given an ultimatum to either extend his contract or leave PSG in 2023.

In a statement, Nasser Al-Khelaifi said

My position is very clear. I don’t want to repeat it every time: if Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free — we can’t do that. This is a French club. He said he would never leave for free. If he changes his mind today, it’s not my fault. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free, that’s very clear.

If PSG let Mbappé play out his contract in 2024, he gets to leave as a free agent and PSG will not recover any of the €180 million that they spent when they acquired him from AS Monaco in 2017.

Mbappé Will Not Let French President Influence His Decision

When Mbappé announced last month that he informed PSG of his decision not to renew his contract, there were rumours floating around that the French striker would make a move to Real Madrid, a club that have pursued Mbappé since he was very young! However, Mbappé has clarified that he was not leaving PSG to go to Real Madrid.

French President Emmanuel Macron has also stated that he would see if he could get Mbappé to continue to stay in Paris but Mbappé has also confirmed that he will not allow President Macron to influence his decision!
