Ja MorantSummary

  • Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is currently suspended for 25 games
  • A report surfaced suggesting that the NBA and the media are out to get Morant
  • Morant came out of his social media break to refute the report

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant was suspended by the NBA for 25 games which effectively rules him out from playing till December 2023. The NBA decided to issue a strong penalty of a 25 game suspension after Morant was found on livestream handling a live firearm.

This was the second incident in 2023 where Morant was caught with a live firearm.

The first incident saw him receive an 8 game suspension and a stern warning. He apologized for his behaviour but soon after repeated the act which caused the NBA to issue a 25 game suspension.

NBA and Media Out To Get Morant

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon made these remarks when he was on the “Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective podcast”. He said

I have heard indirectly that Ja and people close to Ja, perhaps people formerly close to Ja, have this feeling that the NBA out to get them. That the media is out to get them.

The Director of Pro Sports for The Kollective, Mo Wells put out a tweet of MacMahon’s report with a GIF that stated ‘Big Cap’. The term Big Cap is used to state that the report did not have any truth to it.

Ja Morant who decided to go off social media after the second incident with the gun, came back on social media temporarily to retweet Mo Wells’s tweet but a little later deleted it and went off social media again.

Morant Does Not Believe NBA Out To Get Him

The NBA Players Association (NBAPA) did not like the 25 game suspension that the NBA handed out to Ja Morant as they felt that the NBA was being too harsh on Morant.

However, Morant’s retweet suggests that he does not believe there is any truth to the report that the media and NBA are out to get him. Given the fact that he has committed the same violation of playing with a firearm on a live stream within the space of a few months, the penalty imposed by the NBA does have merit to it.
