Does Wilder’s Claims Have Any Substance Or Are They Just Excuses?

Deontay WilderWhen you are a superstar in combat sports and go undefeated for a long time, it becomes very difficult to swallow a loss. Some stars take it on the chin and move on quickly whereas some stars pull out a bunch of excuses and find it hard to bounce back.

When British heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua lost for the first time in his career to Andy Ruiz Jr. he had to face a lot of flak but he took it in his stride, bounced back and defeated Andy Ruiz Jr.

His heavyweight rival Deontay Wilder did the exact opposite after suffering his first defeat to Tyson Fury in Feb 2020.

Deontay Wilder has been off social media for over a couple of months and there was a lot of speculation as to whether Wilder was going to call it quits and retire. It appears that Wilder has no retirement plans in the near future as he is desperate to have his third fight with Tyson Fury and avenge his loss.

Wilder has made some wild statements recently explaining why he lost to Fury. Some might consider these as excuses whereas others might believe there is truth to these allegations. Wilder claimed as soon as he lost that his legs were like jelly and initially put it down to the heavy costume that he was wearing during his walkout to the ring.

The costume which was created by Cosmo + Donato is said to have weighed 40 pounds. However, Wilder has now stated that he felt that someone spiked his water which made him feel that he had taken a muscle relaxant. He said he felt perfectly fine 15 minutes before his walkout but things did not feel right as he made his way to the ring.

Wilder said the suit plus having his water spiked contributed to his defeat. He blames his ex-co trainer Mark Breland for spiking his water. The two have since parted ways but Wilder is still salty.

Wilder also claimed that Tyson Fury had a hard object concealed inside his glove which was responsible for causing extra damage. This is indeed a wild statement given that the match referees check and seal the gloves prior to the fight.

True or False?

Is Wilder still being a sore loser and making excuses or is there some truth to his claims? One of the best ways to settle this is to do Wilder vs. Fury 3 and see if Wilder can bounce back.
