Cristiano Ronaldo expresses frustration at Manchester UnitedSummary

  • Cristiano Ronaldo is reported to have put in a request to leave Man United
  • Chelsea is considering the idea but unclear if coach Thomas Tuchel wants Ronaldo
  • Ronaldo’s goal is to play the Champions League this coming season

Cristiano Ronaldo is reported to be leaving Manchester United this summer and is open to moving to a domestic rival such as Chelsea, but it remains uncertain whether Chelsea is interested in signing Ronaldo at this point in time.

Chelsea has already been informed about Ronaldo’s potential transfer to the club through via new chairman Todd Boehly.

Will Coach Tuchel Agree?

Boehly is reportedly interested in having Ronaldo on the team, but he won’t be the only person to decide on the matter. Some individuals associated with the club have doubts whether head coach Thomas Tuchel would approve of the idea especially as he is planning to revamp the Blues’ forward line.

Ronaldo, who scored 24 goals in 38 appearances for Manchester United, has recently notified the club of his intention to leave. Man United is said to be hesitant to let him go as he is under contract with the club until 2023. Ronaldo is currently been given ‘personal time‘ due to family reason by United which has caused him to miss United’s pre-season training. There are some which believe that this hints that he is keen on leaving the Red Devils in hopes of playing in the Champions League this upcoming season, something that he will not be able to do with United.

Signing an iconic figure like Ronaldo is an appealing idea, but Chelsea would need to examine whether he fits into the club’s future plans. Coach Tuchel already has a plan in relation to Chelsea’s lineup for the next season and Ronaldo wasn’t part of it!

The club wants Leeds United winger Raphinha to join them as part of a £60 million offer. Chelsea is also currently in talks with Manchester City for Raheem Sterling‘s potential move to Stamford Bridge. It could also make an offer to acquire striker Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.

Champions League On Ronaldo’s Radar

Manchester United has not won any major championship over the past five seasons and failed to enter the Champions League. Ronaldo had earlier expressed his frustration over Man United’s ability to sign new players that will help them become a major force.

While Ronaldo loves and respects United and its fans, staying with the club could shatter his dreams of playing Champions League football this season. Ronaldo could reportedly agree to take a pay cut in exchange for joining a team like Chelsea that will have a better chance of playing in later stages of the Champions League.
