Australian cricket all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was in Adelaide, South Australia on 19 Jan to attend a golfing event. After the event, he visited a pub (The Gov) where former fast bowler Brett Lee’s band ‘Six and Out’ was playing.

The Aussie and touring West Indies teams were also in attendance but Maxwell was not part of the group and arrived separately.

CA Launches Investigation Into Maxwell Incident

There is no clarity as of now as to what exactly happened to Maxwell but he was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) in what appears to be an incident caused by alcohol. He was treated at RAH and did not spend the night in the hospital and is reportedly back in training.

Cricket Australia (CA) released a statement and confirmed that it will be launching an investigation into the Adelaide incident involving Glenn Maxwell. CA also confirmed that Glenn Maxwell will not be a part of the ODI series against the West Indies which takes place on Feb 2, Feb 4 and Feb 6.

CA has clarified that the decision to drop Maxwell who is one of the top all-rounders in Australia was not due to the incident in Adelaide but was done in order to manage his workload. Maxwell is expected to be part of the 3 match T20 series against the West Indies which follows the ODI series.

One of the reasons CA is likely to have launched the incident is because this is not the first time that Maxwell has got into trouble due to an alcohol related incident. In 2022, he broke his leg while he was attending a friend’s birthday party. In 2023, he fell from a golf card in Ahmedabad, India and had a concussion.

Steve Smith To Captain In ODI Series

CA has decided to rest their World Cup winning ODI captain Pat Cummins after the test series and have appointed former captain Steve Smith to lead the side. Travis Head will be his vice-captain during the series.

Jake Fraser-McGurk who has been a star in the Big Bash League (BBL) has been selected as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell during the ODI series.
