Summary
- Conor McGregor targets April 2022 return
- McGregor takes a shot at Kamaru Usman
- McGregor also keen to settle feud with Dustin Poirier
‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor continues to keep himself in the news by talking about potential fights once he returns to the Octagon.
Over the weekend, the UFC star told his fans that his recovery is going well and he is expecting to return to the Octagon by April 2022.
McGregor Takes A Crack At Kamaru Usman
McGregor broke his leg in two during his third fight against Dustin Poirier in July 2021 and has been out of action since then. He hasn’t been able to train in the Octagon since then but continues to hit the gym and beef up. His recent pictures on social media, suggest that he could very well fight in a new weight class at 170 lbs.
McGregor also took a crack at current UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman by praising Colby Covington. Covington is not a McGregor fan but McGregor still showered praise on Covington claiming that he nearly won the fight with Usman and showed that there were a lot of holes in Usman’s game.
Thought Colby lumped him up nice last fight. Finished stronger. Without that 2nd round knockdown it’s Colby’s fight imo. If even still. I see many holes. As well as a suspect dome.
I fancy it greatly for the treble. https://t.co/o4RPXvTWS6— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) November 27, 2021
McGregor believes that he has both the power and the ability to take Usman out. Whether McGregor is serious about returning to 170 or if he is just hyping things up to stay in the media remains to be seen.
McGregor has fought twice at welterweight so far. Both fights were against Nate Diaz and he has a 1-1 record. If he does move up to welterweight, it will most likely be for his trilogy fight against Nate Diaz who has just one fight left on his UFC contract. If McGregor ends up winning the trilogy, he might have a case for calling out Kamaru Usman.
McGregor Still Out To Revenge His Loss To Poirier
Dustin Poirier will fight for the UFC lightweight belt on Dec 11 when he takes on the champ Charles Oliveira. The winner of this fight is likely to fight Justin Gaethje who is the number one contender waiting in line.
However if Poirier does win the belt, you can bet that Conor McGregor will do everything in his power to push for a 4th fight with Poirier and see if he can regain his UFC lightweight belt as McGregor does not believe he lost the third
