Betsson has announced that it will partner with Dostal Alley Casino (DAC), located in Central City, in a move that would allow the online gambling firm to enter the emerging sports betting market in Colorado.
Betsson’s latest move is part of the company’s expansion plans in the U.S, seeking entry into all states with legal sports betting markets.
Betsson’s partnership with DAC, which will span at least 10 years, is set to launch a proprietary sportsbook to take in betting action from Colorado’s punters, pending approval from local regulators.
Colorado is the 18th state in the US to legalize sports wagers, after the floodgates were opened in May 2018, when the US Supreme Court lifted a federal ban on such bets. Colorado accepted their first sports bets early last month.
The state’s sports betting legislation allows casinos to enter partnerships with operators to conduct retail as well as digital offerings. Punters are permitted to register a betting account and wager anywhere within the state. Sportsbooks have to pay a 10% tax on all revenues.
Initial projections for Colorado’s sports betting market peg its value at $200 million.
Betsson’s Entry was Years in the Making
Pontus Lindwall, Betsson CEO and President, expressed his excitement at the firm’s entry into the US market via Colorado, which he called one of the fastest growing markets in the US.
Lindwall also noted that DAC, who have more than 60 years of experience operating in Colorado, will be an invaluable partner as Betsson attempts to break new ground in the US.
Lindwall has said that Betsson’s entry into the US market is a product of years of consideration and stated that they had their eye on expanding into more states as they legalize sports betting in the months to come.
DAC CFO CinDee Spellman likewise expressed her optimism for the decade-long alliance with Betsson to offer online sports bets to Colorado’s punters. Spellman stated that their partnership’s proprietary software will be innovative, immersive, and, most importantly, fun for all their bettors.
International Firms Flock to Colorado
Betsson is not the first international gambling firm to enter Colorado’s surging sports betting market. Online gambling firm bet365 has teamed up with Century Casinos to provide online sportsbook services for the casino in Colorado. Century Casino owns two casinos in Colorado, located in Central City and Cripple Creek.
