The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) hands out its Sports Personality of the Year (SPOTY) awards every year.
The SPOTY award takes nominations from the public and takes into consideration all sports from around the world.
The BBC confirmed six nominees for the 2020 SPOTY award and announced that voting will open to the public from December 20.
The six nominees include fast bowler Stuart Broad, Hollie Doyle who is a jockey, boxer Tyson Fury, F1 Champ Lewis Hamilton, snooker great Ronnie O’Sullivan and footballer Jordan Henderson.

The nominations don’t come as a surprise as all six individuals have had a phenomenal year in their respective sports. BBC One will air a Sports Personality programme that is hosted by Gabby Logan, Clare Balding and Gary Lineker where they will look back at 2020 and the performances of each of these players.
The public will be able to cast their votes online and by phone. More details will be provided during the show. Some of the other awards that will be discussed on the show include the Coach of the Year, Team of the Year and World Sport Star of the Year.
Fury Asks BBC To Take Him Off The List
Tyson Fury can be weird sometimes and he had one of those moments when he asked fans to not vote for him for the SPOTY award. He also requested the BBC to take him off the list of nominees. Fury posted a video on social media and said that he is the people’s champ and does not need verification from anyone or any award to recognize what he has accomplished in the sport.
Hi this is Tyson fury the gypsy king, this is a message for the @bbcsport and there spoty award, please take me off your list as I’m the people’s champion and have no need for verification or any awards. I know who I am & what iv done in sport. I have the love of the people… pic.twitter.com/iwNYblTZG4

He ended by saying the love of the fans means more to him than any awards. The Gypsy King’s stance has made it difficult for the BBC as it means Fury will not make himself available for any interviews during the show nor will he accept the award if he ends up winning it.
Even though Fury has taken such a stance, the BBC has confirmed that they will not be taking him of the SPOTY 2020 nomination list. SPOTY products are hopeful that Fury will have a change of heart in the coming days and be more co-operative with them.
Lewis Hamilton could end up winning the vote as he broke more than one record in Formula One in 2020 including winning his 7th F1 Championship to tie the record with the legendary Michael Schumacher.
