Houston responded in the fourth when Jeremy Peña launched a solo homer to right field, cutting the deficit to one run.

Mariners Survive Late Astros Threat
Seattle’s pitching held firm despite a tense finish.
Bryan Woo managed to improve his record to 9-8, allowing three hits and two runs and striking out five over six innings.
Houston starter Hunter Brown, meanwhile, allowed three hits and two runs over five innings but struggled with his control, issuing five walks.
The Astros had a major opportunity in the eighth inning when Jose Altuve reached on a single after Seattle reliever Seranthony Domínguez tripped while attempting to catch an infield pop-up. Houston subsequently loaded the bases with two outs.
Domínguez recovered, however, striking out Daulton Varsho to escape the inning and preserve Seattle’s one-run lead.
Andrés Muñoz then handled the ninth, walking one batter but keeping Houston off the scoreboard to record his 22nd save.
The Mariners also loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but Houston reliever Bryan Abreu ended the threat by getting Raleigh to pop out.
The win completed a series victory for Seattle in Houston and further underlined the Mariners’ dominance in the season matchup between the division rivals.
Seattle will open a series at Milwaukee on Tuesday, while Houston will begin a home series against the Los Angeles Angels.
