400 Horses CasinoSummary:

  • S&K Gaming’s new 34,000-square-foot casino will open May 5 in Polson.
  • Patrons can expect over 300 gaming machines plus a restaurant by the lake.
  • The project, which will expand in the future, will add jobs and reshape the company’s operations.

S&K Gaming is getting ready to open its newest property, 400 Horses Casino, on May 5, at 2 p.m.

The grand opening marks a major step in the group’s long-term expansion plans in western Montana.

300 Gaming Machines with Plans for 100 More

The casino covers 34,000 square feet and is located just off Irvine Flats Road in Polson, near the local airport. It has already created more than 75 jobs and will operate with over 300 gaming machines, with plans to add another 100 in the future.

Gaming will include class two slot machines and electronic table games. No live table games are planned at opening, although future additions remain possible.

S&K Gaming CEO Bryon Miller said the project reflects years of planning and a shift in how the organisation approaches casino design.

Miller said earlier facilities were not originally built with gaming in mind, which led to design limitations that the new site helps resolve. “weird” layout issues at earlier properties were part of the motivation to build a purpose-designed casino from the ground up.

Full Restaurant

The casino also includes a full restaurant called 371 Bar and Grill, named after the depth of Flathead Lake. It will seat about 70 guests and offer indoor and patio dining with lake views. Chef Pedro Vera, formerly of Finley Point Grill, will lead the kitchen. Miller called the restaurant casual, adding it will serve dishes such as wagyu burgers and desserts like crème brulee.

The venue will also operate extended hours alongside the casino, expected to run 24-hour weekends depending on demand.

Plans for 400 Horses began in five years ago, with support from tribal leadership and the S&K board of directors. The project was later given access to a 79-acre tribal-owned parcel, with about 10 acres leased for development.

The site was annexed into the city of Polson in 2023, allowing access to municipal water and sewer services.

Traffic upgrades, completed with the help of the Montana Department of Transportation, include road adjustments and turn lane improvements near the site. The changes are expected after opening.

With construction completed in early 2025, 400 Horses Casino now stands as a central part of S&K Gaming’s next phase in Polson.
