UFC Reveals Secret Island To Host To Four UFC Cards In July 2020

Yas IslandUFC President Dana White has been teasing the MMA world for weeks now that he has a secret island that is being set up for the number one MMA promotion in the world to host regular fights in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The UFC was the only major sports organization in the world to continue to host fights during the lockdown.

White wanted to keep it a secret for as long as possible which led to speculation that the UFC was buying their own private island. Those rumours were shot down after White confirmed the location as Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

Yas Island in Abu Dhabi is a popular tourist location in the Middle East and will now serve as home to four UFC cards in July 2020 including UFC251 which will be a pay-per-view card.

The UFC is yet to clarify whether these four events in Yas Island will be open to the fans or if they will be an empty stadium.

The UFC has hosted as many as 5 fight cards during the coronavirus pandemic and all of them have been in the United States and have been closed door events. The UFC is currently hosting fights in the UFC Apex Centre in Las Vegas, Nevada.

One of the main reasons why the UFC wanted to get fight island up and running is because of the travel restrictions to the United States. The UFC is unable to bring in any European fighters or Russian fighters into the U.S. and will now use Yas Island to bring in fighters from outside the U.S. and get them to fight in the Middle East.

The UFC and Abu Dhabi have a strong relationship and like doing business together. The last time the UFC came to Yas Island in Abu Dhabi was back in September 2019 for UFC 242: Nurmagomedov vs. Poirier.

UFC 251 Could Have Three Title Fights

The UFC is looking to stack the fight card for UFC 251 and reports suggest that as many as three title fights will take place.

UFC Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman will defend his belt against Gilbert Burns, UFC Featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski will defend his belt against former champ Max Holloway and Russian Petr Yan will fight the legendary Jose Aldo for the UFC bantamweight title!
