This weekend the Premier League offers up some tasty treats, as usual. Here are previews of some of the games taking place on Saturday:
The north London derby has been a crucial clash in the past few seasons, especially when it comes to the Champions League spots. This clash is no different, as the fifth-place home side are four points clear of the sixth-place visitors.
A draw would be enough for the home side to move above fourth-place Chelsea on goal difference, at least temporarily anyway. Spurs heads into this game as favourites for the victory, which is understandable considering they are on a run of 12 matches unbeaten at Wembley. However, the home side have won just one of the last six meetings with Arsenal.
Arsenal have been highly unpredictable in the Premier League this season. Arsene Wenger’s team simply cannot afford to lose this clash if they want to keep pace in the race for Champions League spots this season. A 5-1 victory over Everton last time out will have lifted spirits at the north London club. However, consecutive away defeats in the top-flight do not bode well for an away victory.
While the early kick-off involves teams fighting at the top of the table, this clash involves two teams attempting to move clear of the drop zone.
The home side are currently in the relegation zone, but only due to their inferior goal difference to 17th place Swansea City. The Potters recent record in the Premier League is poor, as they have lost four of their last six league games. However, their performances have improved under new Paul Lambert.
Last time out the Potters suffered a 2-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Bournemouth. The defeat saw them slip back into the relegation zone. A win in this game could be a pivotal one for the home side in the fight to avoid the drop.
Brighton are just three points above the home side in the table and by no means clear of the fight for survival just yet. Last time out the Seagulls recorded a 3-1 home win over West Ham to end a winless run of six games in the league.
Chris Hughton’s side have won just two of their 13 away games in the Premier League this season. The Seagulls have also failed to win in their last seven games on their travels, suffering five defeats in the process. They cannot afford another loss in this fixture.
Huddersfield v Bournemouth (12 PM Sunday)
Huddersfield heads into this weekend’s clash with Bournemouth at the John Smiths Stadium in desperate need of a victory.
The Yorkshire outfit have plummeted down the table in recent months and are now, in fact, 19th place. However, they are only in the bottom three courtesy of inferior goal difference to 17th place Swansea City. Town have failed to win in their last eight league games, while also suffering five straight league defeats. David Wagner’s side have struggled for goals of late, failing to score in five of their last six outings.
Things have looked up for Bournemouth of late. The Cherries have moved seven points clear of the relegation zone and up to ninth-place in the table. The visitor’s victory over Stoke City means that Eddie Howe’s side are unbeaten in seven league games. They are now undefeated in their last three away games in the top-flight. The south coast outfit will be confident of continuing their recent good form in Yorkshire.
