Fantasy Football is back this weekend after a short break for action FA Cup action last weekend. Our gameweek 27 top picks produced mixed results for FPL. Here are our picks for gameweek 28:
Liverpool’s record signing is starting to find his feet at the centre of the Reds defence. The 26-year-old looks like the perfect defensive signing at the moment. There is no risk of rotation and he offers an attacking threat in the opposition penalty area.
In his last Premier League appearance, Van Dijk picked up a bonus point and he has become accustomed to picking those all-important points up in past seasons. Last season, despite enduring a season hampered by injury, he picked up 14 bonus points, the season before he yielded 16 bonus points. Those points could be important at this stage of the campaign.
Van Dijk has some very favourable fixtures, starting with West Ham at home on Saturday, which the Reds are big favourites to win. He will also feature in that much-vaunted gameweek 31. At £5.6m, what is not to like about Van Dijk as an FPL asset?
Abdoulaye Doucoure (Watford)
The 25-year-old French midfielder has been one of the biggest success stories of Watford’s roller-coaster campaign. The midfield man has now scored seven league goals and also produced three assists.
Doucoure has thrived in recent gameweeks and produced two of his three assists for the season against Chelsea in the recent 4-1 home win. At just £5.4m, Doucoure is a bargain. He also has the advantage of playing against a travel sick Everton team this weekend at Vicarage Road and a game in gameweek 31, which will be a blank for some teams.
Jamie Vardy (Leicester)
The England international is a player that could prove to be a very good differential for the next few gameweeks, especially as he is valued at just £8.6m. Vardy has already equalled his Premier League goal of 13 from last season and has burst into form in recent weeks.
In fact, he has now scored in the last four gameweeks, picking up four bonus points in the process. The Foxes have a fairly favourable run of fixtures before a blank in gameweek 31.
This weekend, Vardy’s Leicester side host a struggling Stoke City team at the King Power Stadium. The striker could even offer a good captain differential this weekend.
Punt of the week
Gylfi Sigurdsson (Everton)
The Icelandic international had a hard time living up to his big price tag at the start of the season. However, the former Swansea star is now showing signs of adapting to his new surroundings on Merseyside. Sigurdsson has now produced four Premier League goals and four assists. The playmaker is now playing in his favoured role of number ten, although he has played on the left at times for the Toffees this season.
In the last three gameweeks, he has produced two assists and a goal, so his form is improving. Everton also have a favourable run of fixtures in the next few weeks, including a trip to the unpredictable Watford this weekend. At £8m, he could be a bargain buy, especially as he will be playing in gameweek 31, which has become a big factor in FPL manager’s thoughts in recent weeks.
