Premier League Fantasy Football gameweek 18 top picks

Updated On Dec 15, 2017 by David Nugent

Gameweek 17 FPL picks were relatively successful yielding 26 points. We hope that gameweek 18’s picks will be as or even more successful for you as you look for those all-important green arrows. Here are our four player picks for gameweek 18:

Jordan Pickford (Everton)

Everton were a team to avoid in FPL terms until recently. The appointment of Sam Allardyce has helped steady the ship on the blue half of Merseyside. Four clean sheets in their last five games in all competitions suggest that the Toffees are now a solid defensive unit.

The foundation for those solid defensive displays have been the presence of England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in-between the sticks. Not only has Pickford been picking up clean sheets, but also those vital bonus points.

In fact, the Everton number one has picked up bonus points in three of his last four Premier League appearances, including two points from the Toffees 1-0 midweek win at Newcastle.

The prospect of the lowest scoring team in the league Swansea visiting Goodison Park on Monday night means that at £4.8million the former Sunderland star could prove good value.

Daryl Janmaat (Watford)

The Netherlands international has been in and out of the Watford team for much of his time at Vicarage Road. However, during his time playing for Newcastle, he was a very good FPL option. Janmaat’s main strengths are actually going forward and last time out the wing-back scored in a 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace. However, Watford have not been great at keeping clean sheets of late.

A home game against a Huddersfield side that has failed to score in their last seven away games in the Premier League gives the wing-back the opportunity to pick both defensive and attacking points. At £4.8m he could prove to be a gamble worth taking.

Riyad Mahrez (Leicester)

The Algerian winger has displayed in the past just how much of an FPL asset he can be, especially in the Foxes title-winning campaign. Mahrez made a mixed start to the campaign. However, since the appointment of boss Claude Puel the winger’s form has improved immensely. Mahrez has now scored three goals and produced one assist in his last four Premier League outings.

His season tally of five top-flight goals and seven assists have slightly gone under the radar. Now though he is part of the current dream team 11, having picked up five bonus points from his last four top-flight appearances. Mahrez’s price tag of £8.5m may not be that budget-friendly, but with a home game against Crystal Palace this weekend, he could prove to be a fine addition to your FPL team.

Wayne Rooney (Everton)

Veteran forward Wayne Rooney has been a player who has delivered a shed load of points in past campaigns. However, in recent seasons his output has been in slight decline, as he has played fewer games.

Rooney is back as a viable FPL option, though, as the 32-year-old has found a new lease of life in recent weeks. The former Manchester United star has scored five times and produced one assist in his last four Premier League appearances.

His good run of form has seen him pick up seven bonus points from those four outings. At a price of £7.5m with a home game against Swansea City this weekend, Rooney looks like a very attractive proposition.
