Premier Fantasy Football gameweek 17 top picks

Updated On Dec 14, 2017 by David Nugent

No sooner has gameweek ended, that gameweek 17 begins. With a full set of midweek Premier League fixtures, it promises to be a busy time in FPL.

Here are a few players that could help you pick up a good points tally in the forthcoming fixtures:

Nick Pope (Burnley)

Nick Pope has come into the Clarets team and proven to be a fine deputy to injured England goalkeeper Tom Heaton. The former Charlton star has kept six clean sheets this season and played a crucial part in the Clarets successful season so far.

Burnley are a very good defensive unit, especially at home. In fact, Pope has kept clean sheets in three of his last four top-flight outing at Turf Moor, conceding just one goal in the process.

A home meeting with travel sick Stoke and a price tag of £4.7m mean that Pope is a very good option for gameweek 17.

Nicolas Otamendi (Manchester City)

It was hard to look anywhere else than at City’s Argentinian international centre-back for my defender pick. The former-Valencia star has become a major weapon at set pieces, scoring four times this season in the Premier League.

Otamendi has now scored in his last two league appearances for the Citizens, while also providing an assist last time out in a 2-1 win over rivals Manchester United.

He may be an attacking threat on set pieces, but his defensive stats are not bad either this season. City have kept six clean sheets in the Premier League and on Wednesday night visit goal-shy Swansea, who are the lowest scorers in the English top-flight. Otamendi may not come cheaply at £6m, but at the minute, he looks to be one of the best defensive options in FPL.

Heung Min-Son (Tottenham)

Son’s teammate Harry Kane is an obvious FPL asset for Spurs home game with Brighton on Wednesday night. However, for those who cannot afford Tottenham’s main man, the South Korean could prove a good asset against a Brighton side that has failed to win in their last five top-flight outings.

Son has now scored in his last three appearances for the North London club, while also producing two assists for his team. The attacking midfielder’s price tag of £8m will not break the bank either.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton)

The England under-20 World Cup winner is your ultimate budget-friendly striking option. At just £5.3m, the 20-year-old is the lowest priced starting forward at a Premier League club, having started the last four top-flight games.

The former-Sheffield United youngster is not just an enabler to afford other star players. He is garnering points at a decent rate too. The striker now has two goals and six assists for the season.

However, three of those assists and one of the goals have been scored in his last four league outings. An away fixture at Newcastle on Wednesday night represents a good chance for the forward to chalk up more points.

The Toffees head into that game, having won two and drawn one of their last three top-flight games. The Magpies are in terrible form, suffering defeats in six of their last seven top-flight games.

Who will be the standout player in FPL gameweek 17?
