Miriam Adelson Now Tops The 2022 List Of Global Gambling Billionaires

Forbes recently released its 2022 World’s Billionaires List which includes some of the biggest names in the gambling industry, such as Miriam Adelson, the wife of the late casino magnate Sheldon Adelson.

Mrs. Adelson took the 50th spot on the list of the world’s richest people but she emerged as the wealthiest casino boss with an estimated net worth of $27.5 billion.

Her husband Sheldon Adelson was the founder and CEO of the gambling giant Las Vegas Sands Corporation, the parent company of The Venetian Las Vegas and The Sands Expo and Convention Center. Mr. Adelson died in January 2021 at 87.

Coming in second to Mrs. Adelson in the list of billionaires from the gambling and casino industry is Lui Che Woo who sits as chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd, which operates multiple casinos in Macau. Woo is ranked 166th on the list with a net worth of $11.6 billion.

Claiming the third spot is Enrique Razon from the Philippines. He is the chairman of Bloomberry Resorts Corp and also president and chairman of the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. Mr. Razon is also the developer of the Solaire Resort and Casino, an integrated resort complex in Manila. He is ranked 369th globally, with his wealth estimated at $6.7 billion.

Melco Resorts’ Lawrence Ho No Longer A Billionaire?

Other prominent figures from the gambling world who also made it to the list were Steve Wynn (Wynn Resorts) and his former wife Elaine Wynn, Pansy Ho Chiu King (MGM China Holdings Ltd), Henry Sy Jr. (SM Investments Ltd/Belle Mr Corp), Andrew Tan (Alliance Global Group Inc) and Chen Lip Keong (NagaCorp Ltd).

Notably, Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, the CEO and chairman of Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd had been excluded from the list. He was part of the 2021 list with an estimated net worth of $2.4 billion.

The majority of those featured in the list, including the individuals whose main revenue is derived from gambling and casino operations, have seen their net worth drop compared to 2021.

Overall, the 2,668 individuals who made it to the 2022 list have a combined net worth of $12.7 trillion. Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has overtaken Amazon’s Jeff Bezos at the top spot, as his net worth has now grown to $219 billion. Bezos has slipped to number 2 with a net worth of $171 billion
