On Tuesday, the Miami-Dade police released the citations connected to Sunday’s incident when the NFL‘s Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill was forcefully pulled out of his Hill’s McLaren 720S coupe outside Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
The player was briefly detained for around 15 minutes in the morning before the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Was Tyreek Really Speeding?
According to police citation, the player was driving about 60 mph on his way to the stadium, according to estimates from the officer who pulled him over.
This was about 20 MPH over the speed limit, which prompted the officer to forcefully pull him out of his car after asking him to stop the car and place him in handcuffs for about a quarter of an hour after rolling up his window during the traffic stop when he was asked to keep it rolled down.
However, he was not placed under arrest and was handed two traffic citations, one for careless driving and one for driving without a seat belt, totaling a fine of roughly $300.
According to the writings of the officer who pulled him over, Hill was speeding in an area with heavy car and foot traffic, a mix of factors that probably resulted in the careless driving citation.
The police department also identified the officer who is now under investigation for his role in the incident.
Danny Torres, who has spent 27 years with the department, has been put under administrative duties for the duration of the investigation.
His attorney issued a statement earlier on Tuesday, asking for his client to be immediately reinstated.
Several critics, including Rosenhaus, have expressed their opinion that the officers who were involved in the incident should be fired.
“That was horrendous how they treated him“, the agent commented on “The Dan LeBatard Show with Stugotz” podcast.
They didn’t treat him like a human being, there’s no place for (those) police officers to be on the force.
The Handcuff Move Celebration
Fans in the area filmed the incident which has since gone viral. The 30-year-old was seen lying face down on the street and placed in handcuffs.
However, Tyreek together with the rest of his teammates who had offered their support at the scene, eventually suited up to play the game won by the Dolphins 20 to 17.
Despite being “distraught” by what had just occurred, according to his agent Drew Rosenhaus, Tyreek logged seven catches for 130 yards and a touchdown and celebrated with a handcuff move.
