It seems that Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw could be on his way out of Old Trafford this summer. The England international was taken off at half-time during the Red Devils 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final win over Brighton on Saturday.
After the game United boss, Jose Mourinho was highly critical of the 22-year-old, despite the former Southampton star not appearing to do anything particularly bad.
Mourinho has criticised the full-back in the past and according to media reports, the highly-rated star will leave United this summer.
Highly-rated and in-demand
Mourinho does not seem to fancy Shaw as a player or person. No matter what he does in a red shirt, the full-back looks unlikely to ever win the Portuguese boss over.
It is a strange situation, though, as when Shaw joined the Manchester outfit he was ranked as one of the brightest young players in Europe in his position. The last few years have caused his career to stagnate.
Despite struggling to impress Mourinho, Shaw is still highly-rated. The youngster will be in-demand this summer if indeed he is made available for transfer.
According to the Daily Mail, reigning Premier League champions Chelsea are looking to sign the former Southampton star this summer, as the Blues look to improve ahead of next season.
Shaw has also been linked with a move Tottenham in a potential swap deal involving Spurs England international Danny Rose, who has struggled to get in the Tottenham team due to the good form of Ben Davies.
Everton are another team credited with an interest in the young full-back. Left-back has been a problem position this season, as first choice Leighton Baines has missed a chunk of the season through injury and they lacked cover in the position. The Toffees are currently favourites to sign the 22-year-old, Shaw.
It seems the youngster will not have a shortage of options if he leaves Manchester United this summer.
Looks set to miss the World Cup
During his early career at Southampton, Shaw was seen as the future first-choice England left-back. However, three years on and a lack of regular first-team football means that Shaw looks set to miss the World Cup.
The aforementioned Rose and Southampton star Ryan Bertrand are the left-backs in the current England squad for friendly games against the Netherlands and Italy. It is hard to argue that either player is more talented than the Manchester United ace.
A summer move could reignite his career
Luke Shaw is still very much learning at Premier League level. However, he still has so much potential. That potential will only be fulfilled if he can regain his confidence, which seems to be in bits since working with Mourinho.
When at Southampton he looked like somebody who could go on and become a top player in the Premier League. He may never fulfil his potential. However, one thing is for sure he looks highly unlikely to improve at Manchester United under the guidance of Mourinho, so a move summer seems to be the only answer for the full-back.
Where will Luke Shaw be plying his trade next season?
