Heavyweight Champ Ngannou To Switch To Boxing After UFC 270?

Francis Ngannou BoxingSummary

  • UFC 270 takes place on Jan 22
  • UFC heavyweight title fight will be the Main Event
  • Heavyweight champ likely to leave UFC and switch to boxing

The UFC will host its first pay per view card of the 2022 on Saturday night as UFC 270 is set to take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The card will be headlined by a Main Event heavyweight title fight featuring champ Francis Ngannou and interim champ Cyril Gane.

The co-main event will also feature a title fight as UFC flyweight champ Brandon Moreno defends his belt against former champ Deiveson Figueiredo. The UFC has put together a great fight card to start the year but it could very well be the last fight for Francis Ngannou in the UFC, irrespective whether he wins or loses.

Ngannou vs. Gane

Francis Ngannou and his management has been at odds with the UFC for months now and he is fighting the last fight on his contract. Ngannou wants more money to fight in the UFC and the UFC does not seem very keen to negotiate with Ngannou. UFC President Dana White made it clear that if Ngannou wants to leave, he is welcome to do so.

Ngannou is currently focusing on his opponent and former training partner Cyril Gane who is being coached by Ngannou’s former coach. There’s definitely some bad blood going into this fight and Ngannou will want to win for two reasons. The first reason is to prove to Gane and his camp that he is a better fighter and the second to give himself another opportunity to negotiate with the UFC.

If Ngannou loses, it will make it more difficult for him to negotiate and try and get another contract.

BetOnline odds: Francis Ngannou (+133) Cyril Gane (-153)

Ngannou Likely To Box Next

Ngannou made it clear that he is willing to walk away from the UFC whether he is the champ or not. He has suggested that he might step over into boxing and fight for a bigger payday rather than moving to another MMA organization like Bellator or ONE.

Heavyweight champ Tyson Fury has already called out Ngannou on social media and the two are keen to set up a massive heavyweight clash that could bring in a lot of pay per views.

If Ngannou wins, he not only has a chance at the UFC but an even better a href=”https://www.legitgambling.com/sports-betting/boxing”>chance at boxing Fury and making a lot of money!
