Colin Kaepernick On Verge Of Returning After NFL Settlement

Updated On Feb 19, 2019 by Landon Wheeler

Colin KaepernickThe controversial Colin Kaepernick could soon be signed to a new NFL franchise now that the NFL has settled his collusion lawsuit.

Kaepernick’s lawyer Mark Geragos made it clear that Kaepernick wasn’t going to take his cash settlement and fade into the oblivious as he was very keen on continuing to play in the NFL.

Kaepernick was the player who started the National Anthem protests which involved ‘taking a knee‘ in protests of police violence against black Americans. His ‘taking a knee‘ during the National Anthem gained momentum after other players followed suit and it created a national controversy with Kaepernick being at the center.

Kaepernick suddenly found himself without an NFL team as no one was willing to sign him and take on unnecessary trouble. He hasn’t played in the NFL for over two years and filed a lawsuit against the NFL stating that the NFL and NFL franchises has colluded to not hiring him because of his protests.

The NFL finally decided to make an out of court settlement and none of the terms have been disclosed. There are some who believe that Kaepernick and Eric Reid who was part of the collusion lawsuit received somewhere between $60 to $80 million while others believe that the settlement was a lot less.

Kaepernick has so far kept the details of his settlement private but there have been calls for him to come out in the open and disclose how much he has been paid.

Three Teams Could Sign Kaepernick

His high-profile lawyer Mark Geragos is very happy with the settlement and is also confident that Kaepernick will soon be signed to a new NFL team. Geragos was so confident that he said he wouldn’t be surprised if Kaepernick was signed within the next two weeks.

Geragos believes that three teams will be eager to sign Kaepernick. The first team is the Carolina Panthers and the second could be his old team the San Francisco 49ers. The third team that Geragos referred to are the current Super Bowl Champions, the New England Patriots.

It is not very likely that Kaepernick will re-sign with the 49ers and it is also unlikely that the Patriots will sign Kaepernick given that Tom Brady is clear that he will continue to play into 2020.

NFL fans will be very interested in knowing the settlement that Kaepernick was paid and which franchise will be bold enough to sign him.
