LeBron’s Heroics Not Enough As Warriors Win Game 1 In OT

The 2018 NBA Finals commenced in style as the Golden State Warriors took on the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 which turned out to be a thriller.

The Warriors drew first blood and took a 1-0 lead after they won 124-114 in overtime.

LeBron James has literally carried the Cleveland Cavaliers on his shoulders throughout the tournament and if it wasn’t for his brilliance the Cavs would have been eliminated a lot earlier in the season.

James has played phenomenally well in crucial games and there were many analysts who kept wondering if he has enough gas in the tank to keep delivering for the Cavs.

James answered his doubters in style and scored 51 points for the Cavs along with 8 assists and 8 rebounds. One would think a performance like that would be good enough to see his team through but the Cavs fell short as the rest of the team struggled to support James. Kevin Love had a decent game and finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 1 assist.

Warriors Show Team Strength

The Golden State Warriors showed that they don’t have to be dependent on any one player as they came together as a team and delivered when it mattered. Stephen Curry led the scoring for the Warriors and finished with 29 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds. Kevin Durant provided great support finishing with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.

Klay Thompson who had a couple of poor games in the lead up to Game 1, found form and put in a solid performance scoring 24 points with 3 rebounds and 1 assist. Draymond Green also made his presence felt scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists.

Cavs Need To Pick Themselves Up Quickly

There was some controversy over a decision to reverse a call in the final minutes of regulation time and it went against the Cavs. The decision was met with outrage by Tyronn Lue, head coach of the Cavs.

In a statement, Lue said

It’s never been done, ever in the history of the game. It was great, it was epic and James did enough to carry this team to a victory. To do what he did tonight and to come up robbed, it’s just not right

However, the Cavs have to move on from that decision and now focus on how they are going to pick themselves up and even the series in Game 2 which takes place on Sunday at the Oracle Arena.
