Warriors Confident Ahead Of Playoffs Despite Depleted Squad

Updated On May 8, 2018 by Landon Wheeler

golden state warriorsThe Golden State Warriors (GSW) are the defending NBA champions who started the 2018 season as the favourites to win another NBA Championship.

The Warriors have not had a smooth ride in 2018 as they have lost 24 games during the regular season and have shown other teams that they have chinks in their armour which can be exploited with a good game plan.

The Warriors who are ranked second will take on the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of playoffs. They are scheduled to play 7 matches with the first match starting on Saturday in Oakland.

If a team succeeds in winning the first four matches, then matches 5 to 7 will not be required.

The Spurs know that if they can win on Saturday and get a 1-0 lead over GSW, they will have a huge advantage by putting the Warriors under pressure. They have a great opportunity to do so as the Warriors will not be playing at full strength as a couple of their All-Stars will not take part. This includes Stephen Curry who is recovering from an injury and is not expected to play a part in the first round play-offs. Guard Patrick McCaw will also miss out and this will weaken the Warriors defense.

GSW Coach Kerr Confident Warriors Will Shine

Warriors coach Steve Kerr knows that his side will not be at full strength when they take on the Spurs but Kerr and his players are confident that they still have enough firepower to take out the spurs. The Warriors still have All-Stars Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. Veteran Andre Iguodala who missed the last 7 out of 8 games is expected to make a return for Saturday’s game.

Kerr said that the Warriors are prepared to accept every challenge that comes their way and their focus is to hang another banner by becoming NBA Champions yet again. The players are also confident given the fact that they are going to be playing the same team for a minimum of 4 consecutive matches and a possible 7 – which gives them the opportunity to work out a solid game plan.

In a statement, Draymond Green said

You’re excited to start the playoffs. This is what you play for. This is what you do and try to make a run at a championship. We got the experience and know what it takes. Experience usually plays a part in winning and losing this time of year.
