  • The Powerball lottery in Australia has skyrocketed to $160 million
  • More than half of Australia’s population expected to play Powerball on Oct 27
  • The $160 million is the biggest prize offered by an Australian lottery

The Powerball lottery is one of the most popular lottery draws across the world as it offers some of the biggest prizes to lucky winners.

Australia’s Powerball lottery has not had any winners during the last 5 draws and has resulted in the Powerball reaching epic proportions.

Powerball Climbs To $160 Million

The Powerball draw on Oct 20 was set for a whopping $100 million but there were no lucky winners. The Powerball has now skyrocketed to $160 million which has now become the biggest prize to be offered by an Australian lottery after February had offered $120m to a possible single winner.

The previous highest prize was $100 million which was won by a nurse in her 40s who was in New South Wales. She ended up taking home $107 million in prize money but continued to work as a nurse.

If someone should win the Powerball on Thursday night, Oct 27, they will become the first individual in Australia to win over $160 million. The Powerball first division can also be won by multiple winners and there is a possibility that this can happen as more than half of Australia is expected to play the Powerball and buy multiple tickets.

To win the first division in the Powerball, you need to get all 7 numbers correct along with the Powerball. The first 7 numbers must be chosen from a grid of 1-35 numbers while the Powerball must be chosen from a grid of 1-20 numbers. Individuals in Australia can purchase tickets offline and online while individuals outside Australia can purchase tickets online to the Powerball before 7.30 pm AST – Oct 27.

16 Powerball Division One Winners In 2022

As of this writing, there has been a total of 16 Powerball winners in Australia during 2022 and a total of $681.7 million has been shared amongst these first division winners. That number will jump significantly if there is a division one winner on Oct 27.

New South Wales has produced (7) the most number of first division winners followed by Victoria (4), Queensland (3) and Western Australia (2). There have been no first division Powerball winners in South Australia, ACT or Tasmania so far and maybe that will change on Oct 27!
