Louis Van Gaal was given the responsibility of being the head coach for the Netherlands and lead them in what will be his third attempt to win the FIFA World Cup as head coach of the Netherlands.

Van Gaal was the head coach in 2002 when the Dutch failed to qualify for the World Cup.

He had better results in 2014 when the men in Orange ended up in third place. This is likely going to his last attempt to get the Netherlands to win the FIFA World Cup at Qatar 2022.

Van Gaal Battling Prostate Cancer

The 70 year old Van Gaal surprised everyone this week when he suddenly announced that he was battling a serious form of prostate cancer. Van Gaal said that he initially decided to keep the diagnosis to himself and not share it with his team or anyone close to him as he did not want his health scare to have a negative impact on the squad as they prepared to qualify for the Qatar world cup.

Van Gaal admitted to going through over 25 sitting of radiotherapy during the World Cup camp but put up a brave front that no one could tell what he was going through. The Netherlands had a strong run during the qualifiers and finished at the top of their group with 9 wins and no losses.

With the Netherlands qualifying for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Van Gaal was open to sharing his prostate cancer diagnosis as he felt now was the right time!

Netherlands Want To Win World Cup For Van Gaal

Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk said that he was surprised to hear the news about head coach Van Gaal and was shocked. van Dijk said that he and the rest of the Netherlands squad would love to win the Qatar World Cup as it would be present that Van Gaal would never forget. van Dijk also said that he spoke to Van Gaal and told him that the team would be there for him if and when he needs anything!

Manchester United also sent out a message of support to their former coach Van Gaal and said that they were sending across strength and courage!
