Messi Will Play Final Game Against France
Lionel Messi is the captain of Argentina and a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner who is widely considered to be one of the greatest players to have ever played the game. Messi’s childhood dream is to win the World Cup and Argentina are now just one game away from fulfilling Messi’s dream after thrashing Croatia on Tuesday for the first semi final.
Messi told reporters in Qatar that he is very happy to finish his journey at a World Cup final, representing Argentina. Leo Messi went on to say that it has been a very emotional World Cup for him, especially to see how much football fans in Argentina have enjoyed the journey to get to a World Cup final.
The 35 year old Messi said given the fact that the next World Cup is in 2026, it will be difficult for him to continue and its best for him to finish his career on the grandest stage of them all!
Argentina have made it to 5 World Cup finals and have won just 2 World Cups. Messi has his fingers crossed that their sixth World Cup appearance will finish with them lifting their 3rd World Cup.
France Stands In Argentina’s Way
France had a tough game against Morocco in the second semi-final but prevailed 2-0. The defending champions will now take on Argentina at the Lusail Stadium in Doha on Dec 18. France have also won two World Cup’s but the big difference is France have only made it to the World Cup finals on two occasions and they have won both finals in 1998 and 2018.
France will depend heavily on Kylian Mbappe who plays alongside Leo Messi at Paris St Germain. Mbappe and Messi are currently tied at 5 goals each on the list of leading goal scorers in Qatar.
