  • The Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams could face a two-game suspension.
  • Williams allegedly broke the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy.
  • The 23-year-old ranks second on the Lions with 361 receiving yards and three touchdowns this season.

Jameson Williams‘ challenging National Football League journey continues as the Detroit Lions wide receiver faces a potential two-game suspension for allegedly breaking the league’s performance-enhancing substances (PES) policy, sources told ESPN on Monday night.

The 23-year-old has been a key contributor for the Lions this season, ranking second on the team with 361 receiving yards and three touchdowns, behind All-Pro receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Williams was off to a promising start in his third NFL season before this setback.

The Lions, currently 5-1, are coming off a dramatic 31-29 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7.

However, Williams had a quiet game, being targeted only once for minus-4 yards.

Several Career Interruptions

Williams was selected 12th overall out of Alabama in the 2022 NFL Draft, but his career has been marked by multiple interruptions.
He missed the first 11 games of his rookie season due to an ACL injury he suffered in college.

His second season also began with a suspension—this time for four games due to a violation of the NFL’s gambling policy.

The suspension stemmed from mobile betting on non-NFL games while at a club facility. Initially set for six games, the gambling suspension was later reduced to four after the NFL adjusted its rules, allowing Williams to return in 2023.

“No Choice But to Take It On the Chin”

Regarding the current suspension, Jameson Williams expressed his disappointment but acknowledged the situation, telling ESPN via text he had

No choice but to take it on the chin. I’m in good spirits, just ready to get back with [my] brothers ASAP

Despite the setbacks, Williams has shown flashes of the talent that made him a top draft pick, and the Lions hope he can return to the field and continue contributing to their strong 2024 campaign.

For now, his breakout third year is on hold for two weeks. If the suspension stands, he’ll miss this week’s game against the Titans and the NFC North matchup with the Packers at Lambeau Field.

The NFL has yet to announce the suspension. The Lions have not commented on the situation.
