MLB Gold Glove AwardSummary:

  • Pete Crow-Armstrong, Ian Happ, and Nico Hoerner each won Gold Gloves for the Cubs.
  • Kansas City, Boston, and San Francisco had two winners each.
  • Eight players earned the award for the first time, including Boston’s Ceddanne Rafaela.

The Chicago Cubs led all of Major League Baseball this year with three Gold Glove winners, as Pete Crow-Armstrong, Ian Happ and Nico Hoerner each took home one of the game’s top defensive honors.

For Pete Crow-Armstrong, it was a milestone moment, as he marked his first Gold Glove and another highlight in what’s been a breakout season for the 22-year-old All-Star center fielder. Happ picked up his fourth straight award in left field, while Hoerner claimed his second at second base.

Four straight’s pretty special. We had an unbelievable defensive team this year. Just all around, I think we built off each other and kind of fed off each other and the energy, and it was a real source of pride among the group.

Hoerner, who also won last season, began this year recovering from right flexor tendon surgery in October 2024.

To have an injury that directly impacts your defence and still win this award, yeah, it feels really good

The Cubs weren’t the only team well-represented. Kansas City, Boston, and San Francisco each had two Gold Glove winners. Rawlings announced that eight players received the award for the first time.

Witt Jr. and Garcia Made History

Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. and Maikel Garcia made history as the first shortstop-third baseman teammates to win in the same season since Baltimore’s J.J. Hardy and Manny Machado in 2013. Witt’s win also marked his second straight at shortstop.

The Giants’ Patrick Bailey and Logan Webb became the first pitcher-catcher duo from one team to both win in the same year since Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright for the Cardinals in 2013. It was Bailey’s second consecutive win behind the plate.

In Boston, right fielder Wilyer Abreu and center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela took home Gold Gloves, continuing the Red Sox’s strong outfield defense. Abreu repeated as a winner, while Rafaela earned his first.

Other multiple-time winners included Yankees pitcher Max Fried and Cleveland’s Steven Kwan, who each joined Happ as four-time recipients. Atlanta’s Matt Olson picked up his third.

The remaining winners included Detroit catcher Dillon Dingler, Texas second baseman Marcus Semien, Houston utility player Mauricio Dubón, and Toronto first baseman Ty France. In the National League, Fernando Tatis Jr., Masyn Winn, Ke’Bryan Hayes, and Miami’s Javier Sanoja rounded out the list.

Voting for the awards combined input from managers, coaches, and defensive analytics provided by the Society for American Baseball Research.
